Hello,

Apologies if this isn't the correct forum. I've done a few Google searches, but I don't think the results are what I'm looking for.

The Issue: My switch won't connect to its dock.
I've tried to power cycle the unit, I've made sure all the cords are connected in the correct order, all software is up to date and I'm using the official Nintendo cords that came with the console. I've taken it to a friends house to see if it was just my dock, but it won't connect to his either. I've checked the port on my console and everything looks clean and in place - no obvious debris as far as my amateur eye can tell. Additionally, the switch will connect and charge when I plug the usb c cable directly into the console. I did, however, notice that the power cable for the dock seems to be broken. It won't charge the console or other devices I've tested it on.

Last bit of info: I purchased the console used a few years ago, but it seemed in good condition and hadn't given me any issues until now. The original owner swapped out the back plate but I wasn't fond of the color so I swapped it out again. I didn't have to dig into the console to swap it out, so the motherboard and ports were untouched, as far as I know.
Anyway, if anyone has had a similar experience and has advice for next steps, I'm all ears.

Thanks!

The dock needs a functioning power supply to work correctly, so that might be the issue. It cannot be powered by the switch alone

Yeah if the cable is broken, then you need a new one.

@Rambler Thanks for the response! That totally makes sense, however, when trying to dock the console on a friends dock, which we confirmed was functioning, mine still did not connect. I think thats what is throwing me off a little. For that reason, I thought it may be an issue with the console usb c port instead of the dock, but I can still connect and get the switch charging by plugging a usb c directly into the console.

Sounds like your port chips has failed it can still charge but the output video chips seems to have failed. You need to contact Nintendo Support in your Region to get a fix is what it sounds like or send to repair.
