Hello; I have a yellow switch lite which I got new in around May 2020. Works brilliantly and as expected. Last few days, I’d have no games active, put it in sleep mode and next day (or two) return to it and the battery indicator would show a massive drop; 20-30%. It was on 23% yesterday, so I fully charged back to 100%. Didn’t play at all, checked this morning and it’s at 72%. It’s on the latest firmware.
Aside from the articles which suggest I deplete to 0% and recharge six times, does this sound odd to anyone else? It was noticed when I updated the NSO apps for the new games this week.
@michaelf As far as what's causing the Switch Lite to go from 100% to 72% in sleep mode over night, I'm not sure what's going on there. It seems too early for that to be explained by normal battery degradation alone.
I don't know the context of the articles that say you should run the battery down to 0%. I've only seen fully-depleting-the-battery-several-times suggested in Nintendo Support for when battery charge % displays incorrectly. Otherwise, it's a lithium ion battery, fully depleting the battery + long charge sessions back to 100% degrade the battery faster than shorter charge sessions.
@WoomyNNYes - aye the articles I had seen were about the faulty / incorrect battery percentage display. I agree that it does seem too early to have battery degradation that much, so early on. I’ll keep an eye on it, perhaps have it powered off not in sleep. There’s no random Bluetooth items draining power either. An odd one!
@Ninfan I haven’t tried MarioKart since the last update(s), but I’ll see in case it is running slowly.
I guess the r*g comment is based on my avatar. No (if only!). I had the image commissioned by the original artist who did the same style for the Spectrum mags of the day, for a series of Spectrum games books I had published in the late Noughties, so technically it predates r*g - although the books did end up being featured in an issue, as did my old Speccy gaming website !
@Ninfan there are six in the series and called ‘the ZX Spectrum Games Bible’ (vol 1 - 6) and are on a printing on demand site for the actual paper books. I don’t want to contravene the community rules, so best not provide the direct links here!
The co-author got the images produced; I don’t believe they were done by Oli Frey though
@michaelf You are allowed to have links in your signature. But if you want specifics on that, you may want to ask via NL's Contact button below in the red banner. Antdickens will likely answer.
@Eel not on this occasion. I did have a go on MarioKart (and Tetris 99) and it depleted battery life as I’d expect. So perhaps it was just messing with my head … I’ll check later to see what the score is as I’ve left it since Sunday
@michaelf Every once in a while, there's is someone on here with a unexplained glitch, and they also happen to never reboot or shut down their console. If you have rebooted the Lite, though, you can disregard. (edit: I just remembered that latest update did force a reboot. Forgive me if my comment is less helpful than I planned)
I'm having the same issue since the 14.0.0 update dropped, and 14.1.0 didn't fix it either. It draines around 30-35% overnight with no updates or games downloading, and I have never encountered this issue prior to the updates.
@Alak96 Is that with a Switch Lite, regular Switch, or OLED? For clarity, is this with games turned off too? (in case anyone else want's to try to reproduce/verify the issue)
