Topic: Star Ocean the Second R

A remake of the original PS1 game in an HD-2D artstyle.
Looks really good!

Second Story is the best game in the series.

A good starting point for folks who're interested.

I've never played any Star Ocean Games before but I've always had a moderate interest in the series. Maybe I'll go with this one as my first entry

Game looks good. I don't remember beating this one so I will pick it up again.

Collectors Edition, exclusive to the S-E Store.

I'm not sure if the standard edition is exclusive as well or if it will have a retail release?

But after Final Fantasy Pixel Remastered only got one print run on the S-E Store, why take chances?

Been waiting on a more updated look to Second Story since I missed out during the PSX days.

There's a series timeline. But, like Final Fantasy there's no continuity between games.

This game looked absolutely stunning. HD 2D never gets old for me, I can't wait for this one, definitely one of the best things in the direct.

@Nintendencies Couldn't agree more, HD 2D is one of the best things to come out in gaming in my opinion and I'm glad Square Enix is continuously giving us more of it.
I don't see it getting old anytime soon.

My money's down on a standard copy from the S-E Store.

I like the game, but I don't hold the same love for this as I do Final Fantasy.

$200 for the CE is a bit much for what's included.

I've never liked Star Ocean. I think the newer games are the poster child for mediocre JRPGs around the world.

But apparently this is the best one, so I'm willing to give it a go. And I do like that art style. HD2D and it's derivative styles can do no wrong as far as I'm concerned.

Not interested in the CE. I'm so over collector editions that are not platform specific and ship the physical game separately. Got me with Persona 5 Royal. Never again.

I still need to try the first one on switch. I've had it for almost 2 years now.

I’m not usually interested in these remakes, but the visuals looked incredible in this game. Definitely on my radar.

Ok, talked to my brother who is a diehard Star Ocean fan, and he told me I gotta play this game. Said it's definitely the best one, and he was even asking me when it released, which he rarely does because he's usually just into his Gamepass.

So, ok. I'm convinced I need to give this the old college try.

The only Star Ocean I've played is the newest one (the Divine Force) which I thought was pretty fun time, so I'm going to keep an eye on this since it's supposed to be the best one.

I've never played any game in this series before but I'm a half hour into the demo for this game and I am pretty much sold already 😂. It's absolutely gorgeous!

Seems the "physical" release isn't worth owning.

@Magician Thats a shame because I really like the box art. But the ugly bar saying download required ruins it for me.

Seems the eastern European, Austrian USK-rated version is complete on cartridge?

Not sure.

PEGI box art usually move their mandatory download banner to the back of the box art.

Edit: The back box art does mention downloads for multiple language packs.
