I've been playing Sonic and I have a question: I've played mostly Mega Play version, the best novelty of this release -although I hate you can't save scores when on-the-go for later uploading, as usual with Switch games with high-score features, sadly-, and although I put the dash on off, I've noticed both dash and drop dash are featured in this version. I really have it on off, but they appear anyway. And at least drop dash didn't exist when this version got first released.

Anybody else with this problem?

@Moroboshi876 I can't answer your question as I haven't bought it yet.I'd like to know about Mega Play though. I understand stages are altered slightly from the original but are they played one after the other the classic way or is it strictly a time trial mode with online leaderboards? The wording on the game's E-shop page makes me think it's the latter and I quite like the idea of that.

@OorWullie It is a high score mode as in Hamster games: you only have one credit, in this case one life only, but you have to clear stages under a strict time limit, between 1 minute and 4, depending on the stage. When you die you lose and upload your current score.

There are no special stages, and slower stages aren't present, namely Marble and Labyrinth. When you pick up a 1UP monitor it doesn't have any effect, entering the giant ring either.

It's a hard mode, in other words. And it's cool because of the change of strategy it forces you to make after all these years of muscle memory.

It seems that it was the arcade version on Mega Play system, designed to give people a taste of what Mega Drive / Genesis could offer. So these are essentially shorter versions of the games, but more difficult.

@OorWullie You're welcome. And remember: this is a mode. There is also the original one, a time attack just for Green Hill Zone act 1, display settings, region settings, save slots... a great game from M2.

Recently I've noticed that when I'm browsing the menu of Sonic, when I push right with the analog stick it goes up. Does anybody else have this problem?

In August I had my left joy-con repaired because, among other problems, the stick didn't register up movement correctly, and it worked well since. But this strange issue makes me fear a new problem. I have to say that in games where I had that problem I haven't got it anymore since the repair.

Another month has gone and we didn't receive even one new Sega Ages game, and they had to be monthly released, even 2 for month was a possibility. Nothing announced for tomorrow, and next week is already November. I'm becoming impatient!

There's a nice discount on Sega stuff at the moment. So I picked up Thunder Force IV and Outrun. I would've grabbed Virtua Racing as well but it's still at full price. I spend my days hoping for those Saturn and Dreamcast games Sega hinted at if these Ages games sold well.

I have most of the games already. And stopped buying them day one as soon as I realized they were discounted not long after release. To make the most of my money I wait for a sale on Mexico, where sadly there's no sale of these games at the moment. Anyway the only one I don't own already among the discounted is Alex Kidd.

I return to this thread because I have a question about Sonic 2. I hope someone reads it and knows the answer.

It turns out that I remembered, maybe mistakenly, that you could play co-op with a second player in this game, but I can't seem to find the option in the menu. I can play as Sonic, Tails or both, Tails being controlled by the CPU, but I can't see a 2 player mode that isn't "2 player VS".

And after some searching I've seen that it actually exists, that a second player could grab the pad and join the first anytime.

Does anybody know how to do it in this Sega Ages version?

Thanks

@Moroboshi876 In the original Sega Genesis version all you had to do is literally pick up the second controller and start pressing buttons to control Tails. There isn't an option or anything like that just start pressing buttons on controller 2. The moment you stop pressing buttons the CPU will take over immediately. Also there is no splitscreen unlike the 2 player mode and the camera will always be centered on Sonic so the moment Tails is out of the screen, it will take a moment for Tails to come back on the screen.

@Tasuki That must be it! Thanks. I guess it works the same way in Sega Ages version.

@Moroboshi876 Also keep in mind that Tails cannot get any power ups and any rings he gets goes to Sonic which means he only has one hit. In truth it's pretty bad it's not like say for example multiplayer in a Lego game.

@Tasuki Yes, I knew something about that, but I only wanted to try it with my 2 yo daughter, just walk through a stage with her controlling Tails and me Sonic, without running or anything. And didn't know how. Thanks!
