I know the switch is 5 years old at this point, but are they really going to do a full-blown successor by 2023? That's only a year and a half away (more or less) and considering how well and timeless the concept of the Switch is, I'd assume they'd want to milk it for as long as possible. How would you even top something as ingeniously executed as it? Maybe more power or something that no-one has even considered yet but would it really be as enticing as what we currently have now? The Wii U went through something similar. It was more powerful, did have massive games and had a cool idea, but as the followup to nearly the highly selling console ever in the Wii, it was yikers to put it mildly.

@MarioBrickLayer I'd love to see Pikmin 4. I don't think it is a console seller though, so I would be surprised if it was released in the launch window.
There is always the odd title as well (like 1-2 Switch, Wii Sports, etc). So we should expect something similar, especially if the successor has some new hardware feature.
I think Nintendo will revise the Nintendo Switch, i.e. it will have a better processor and graphics and more RAM as it was with the Nintendo 3DS when they made the New Nintendo 3DS with an upgraded processor and more RAM.
I can imagine a 'Switch' with no screen similar to Playstation TV. A tiny box for your TV for around £130. Nintendo often gives us what we neither asked for nor want, Wii-Mini style. @StuTwo
If a hardware design was completed a while back, but was cancelled/postponed due to the chip shortage and replaced with the OLED edition, I wonder if they will revise the design and make it better?
Components are supposed to get cheaper over time, not sure if that is the case in the current circumstances, but a design from circa 2 years ago should be cheaper now (lower RRP?) or they could improve it?

I've previously poured cold water on a TV mode only Switch, but I don't think there's any logical answer to that 'Because Nintendo' argument
@MarioBrickLayer That's kinda a key question for speculation - will the next model be basically the same, i.e. another Switch model, or will there be new features that will make it a Switch successor? I don't have a strong view either way at the moment. However I don't think the OLED model was pulled back from a SoC upgrade due to chip shortages, at least not shortages directly affecting Nintendo or Nvidia. If they had upgraded the SoC last year it would probably have been produced on a 12nm TSMC process (i.e. like the Tegra Xaviar SoC) which is not capacity constrained. And the OLED model did have new video components to support HDMI 2.0 output, so upscaled video could have been output. I don't know why Nintendo decided not to pull the trigger on a SoC upgrade last year, but I suspect they felt the lack of competitive pressure due to the production problems XBox & PS5 are having. Or maybe Nvidia promised that if they waited a couple more years they could have something a lot better.
What would your preference be - an incremental upgrade (e.g. Switch 4K model), or effectively a new console with additional features (e.g. Super Switch 2, with VR)?
(PS my own preference would be for a Switch Lite OLED model, but I suspect that'll come later after a new/upgraded hybrid model)

I could see that for various reasons (very late in the game - probably even after the next Nintendo console has launched) but I could also see crazy "oh Nintendo..." things like "Switch Lite XL" with a larger LCD screen with a lower pixel density.
@StuTwo
Switch Lite XL is just bonkers enough! The tiny big one. I wouldn't be surprised if we see dual screen gaming return on their next machine. Marketed correctly and given enough momentum, the concept could actually gain real traction. (It would secretly be the Wii U 2.) Imagine Nintendoland online with a massive player base. No other current console offers bulletproof asymmetrical local multiplayer, also it would undock for portable backwards compatible Switch single screen gaming.
@JaxonH Lite with OLED won't happen in my opinion. The Lite ist Nintendo's low budget option and I don't really see them selling this one for a higher price, but it's Nintendo and you never know, I might be wrong.
@Sasuke94 I can see an additional Lite OLED model coming out in a few years, like the 2DS XL came out after the Switch launched. It yeah, who knows, because Nintendo!

That's an interesting perspective, everything I have seen or read about this has talked about Nintendo reacting to the chip shortage on them rather than the chip shortage impacting Sony and MS.
@KayvooDual Screen is dead. Nintendo isn't going to spend more money on that factor otherwise we get a DS Switch. All games coming out already tells you this isn't the forecast coming. The only change would be a Lite OLED to keep up but that's about the only surprise development.
@SwitchForce
"The only change would be a Lite OLED to keep up but that's about the only surprise development."
That would literally be the least surprising development. I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo convinces us to buy a shire horse controller or AR mushroom picking, given their track record. I would be disappointed if they play it safe again with their next main console.
