@squiddu-real I agree on the art being charming; I just found the gameplay boring.

Slightly mixed experience with the demo for me.

At first, I was completely head over heels. Loved Hoop Trundling. Brolly Good Show seemed fun. And Disc Dog was an absolute dream.

But then a couple of, admittedly fairly minor, cons were encountered:

  • The first game I tried MANY times to get a perfect in was Disc Dog. I really slogged it out to catch every disc in one run, failing over and over. I finally got my perfect run and... nothing - there is no recognition of a perfect run. That might sound really minor, but the whole hook of games like this for me are that dedication to getting perfect runs and a cute little visual or aural reward for doing so. I can't remember if previous Rhythm Heaven games have been the same 'cos it's been a good while since I played one, but it's hardly unusual not to recognise a perfect run in a video game, and I'd really like it to be there.
  • Brolly Good Show - How the HECK do you get an Amazing rating in this one? More than once I've completed a run with no apparent missed beats or anything, and still only get a Really Good rating. Is this a bug, or is that I'm just slightly off a few times but there's no feedback during the run?
  • Feed the Beast - just doesn't feel especially rhythm-y. I can get the hearts, but I'm not feeling the rhythm while doing so, particularly. Just doesn't seem to be getting my foot tapping.
  • The art - Yes, I'm used to the simple art in Rhythm Heaven games and it has a charm, but I'm yearning for just a little more visual flair or effects going on.

As long as there's plenty more games like Hoop Trundling and Disc Dog (the clear best of the bunch), with great music throughout, I'll be very happy, but I need some sort of feedback if I'm missing beats (the other games have them, so why doesn't Brolly Good Show?), and I'd really like a Perfect reward.

Haven't looked at the multiplayer bits yet.

@gcunit

quick rundown of your issues:

  • all rhythm heaven games have a perfect system. it's a bit strange, because you usually have to wait for the game to give you a chance to perfect a minigame, and then you get three attempts before it swaps to another minigame. i imagine the demo doesn't have it because it usually isn't introduced until completing the second remix.
  • brolly good show does have feedback for barelys, actually, but its fairly subtle. pay attention to the brella fellow directly to the left of you, its face will change if you get it a little off time. that's how most "barelys" work in the series, subtle visual changes.
  • not a fan of j-pop, huh? shame.
  • i can only assume and hope more will be going on in later games. rhythm heaven tends to have a focus on visually distracting you to make you focus on the music.

Visuals differ from each minigame, anyways Squiddu pretty much says it all, you can get a perfect award just not in the demo. I'm also guessing that the full version will have an English version of that one song, it is weird that it was still in Japanese since all past songs were English over here. Maybe this time we can choose between which one we want to hear?...Or maybe it's just flat-out Japanese only and the devs got lazy this time? >_>

@squiddu-real @Joeynator3000 Thanks both. I will be studying l'il brolly dude intently now 😁

Fwiw, I do like J-pop, though I'm not very familiar with it - maybe that's part of my issue here. I don't think I have an issue with the track in Feed the Beast, I quite like it, but I'm just not particularly getting the same satisfaction from the timing of the button presses I'm doing compared to the other games. I like the music, I like the changing lighting etc in the background, but the button presses don't feel as well woven into the music as it is in the other games.

@Joeynator3000 considering the wealth of content here, and the implication of far more vocal tracks, i can't say it's "laziness", per se... and besides, it seems some rhythm heaven fans online threw a hissy fit about the english-only cues and music anyways. better than megamix just cutting out the vocals, i guess...

@gcunit a lot of vocal tracks tend to be like that in the series, standalone songs not exactly made with every chosen minigame in mind
