Topic: Resident evil 7. No plans for switch release

Well this is disappointing news. Especially for such a big resident evil fan like myself.

I was very hyped by the rumoured retail leak a few months back but here's what the producer had to say

Resident Evil 7 producer Masachika Kawata.
“I think it’s a very unique piece of hardware. I’m looking forward to the possibilities of the system itself, but we have no plans at the moment regarding Resident Evil on Switch.”

What's your guys thoughts?

Gonna get announcements like this for a lot of big games.

@KirbyTheVampire yeah that's expected. It's my own fault really I got too hyped with the rumours

@KirbyTheVampire I think so too. Which is a huge problem for Nintendo because the company will fail to attract Sony and Microsoft fans and the Switch won't sell very well. If the Switch was released as a sort of secondary console to supplement PS4 and XB1, I think it could have done a lot better, but the $300 price point, the same as a PS4 Uncharted Bundle, for an underpowered system with no games isn't going to convince casual gamers to buy.

@LegendOfPokemon the price is fair IMO it's a launch console. Heck if I got ps4 at launch I would have had to sell a car.

@gamermole True. Switch is cheaper than PS4 was at launch. I just don't see anything with Nintendo's strategy for the Switch that will cause it to succeed where the Wii U failed. A big part of that is getting the major third-party games.

The issue with the Wii U wasn't the lack of third party content especially at launch. The Wii U got quite a lot of third party support out of the gate. The issue was that there was an odd pacing of exclusive content and the content we got on average wasn't of a particularly high quality. Especially compared to the Switch if you ignore the Wii U ports on the Switch given the fact that the Wii U is a dead end platform.

NA Nintendo home console exclusives on Wii U in the first couple of months:

  • Chasing Aurora
  • ESPN Sports Connection
  • Game Party Champions
  • New Super Mario Bros. U
  • Nintendo Land
  • Rabbids Land
  • Sing Party
  • Tank! Tank! Tank!
  • Your Shape: Fitness Evolved 2013
  • ZombiU (was exclusive at the time)
  • Rapala Pro Bass Fishing
  • Family Party: 30 Great Games Obstacle Arcade
  • Jeopardy!
  • Lego City Undercover (was exclusive at the time)

Here's the same thing for the Switch from what we know:

  • Fast RMX
  • Snipperclips
  • 1-2 Switch
  • Zelda: Breath of the Wild
  • Super Bomberman R
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
  • Arms
  • Splatoon 2

Those are the lists of games that will differentiate the consoles from their competitors. That's the content that will convince people to go with Nintendo over their competitors. Now I don't know about you but I know which list of games is more compelling....

She-Ra is awesome. If you believe otherwise, you are clearly wrong.
Urban Champion is GLORIOUS.

They're also Capcom so you just know if it's any good it'll eventually get a port for your smartwatch and internet connected fridge.

Come on, we're talking about the guys who swore RE4 would be exclusive to the GC, and a couple of months later it was well known they were developing RE4 for the PS2.

Let's wait for launch results. If their good (at least, Capcom's level) we may see something at E3.

I have a chronic lack of time, for everything.

Now playing: Okami HD, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

a decent RE on a handheld would be awesome!

Switch games list,

Legend of Zelda BotW, Human resource machine, NBA Playgrounds, Street Fighter 2, Super Bomberman R, Snipperclips, Overcooked, World of Goo.

Even if it got decent third party support, it still wouldn't get anywhere near the level of support the PS4/Xbone would. Nintendo just hasn't earned the trust of the vast majority of third party developers.

Currently Playing: Yakuza Kiwami 2 (SD)

Those lists exclude all of the multi-platform releases to prove a point. Those are the games that in that launch window can't be found on competing platforms. They're the titles that people can point to and say "but you can't get that on the PS4/XBOne".

The claim was that the Wii U failed because it lacked third party support. And in the end that was true but it wasn't true at the start. It certainly wasn't the reason why people didn't buy it early on. They didn't buy it because those exclusive games weren't that compelling. Not until it was too late anyways. I think its fair to say that the same is not true for the Switch.

What I'm saying is that people are so sure that they have the reasons the Wii U failed all figured out. They're searching for parallels with the Switch. But in doing so they're blind to all of the massive differences. Having Zelda, Mario Kart, Splatoon, the tech-demo game and a new IP like Arms? That's much better than what the Wii U got. With or without the Wii U's long list of games you could already get elsewhere.

The PS4 and Xbox One aren't really competitors for the Switch. It's why that lineup of video games is not appealing to gamers who are in the market for a PS4 or an Xbox One.

They're all game consoles, and they're all releasing games. They most certainly are competing, no matter what Nintendo says.

I think sometime this year. Maybe towards the end of the year around Christmas. Nintendo will release the switch tablet on it's own. So it's just a handheld console. With the options to buy a dock at a later date if you want to play on the TV with it. I personally think Nintendo should be doing this now considering you can buy a second dock anyhow.

But I think they want to squeeze the 3DS for a few more months before they do this which makes sense I guess. At the moment I am having doubts with my switch pre order. I ordered from Amazon UK the very minute the pre orders went live. But am not sure if I want to keep the pre order or not. Now if Nintendo had a switch tablet only option for £189.99 I would not be having any doubts at all.

Every day the Switch gets more and more disappointing. I love the franchise and have bought every game that's been on a Nintendo home console. This is down to Nintendo yet again releasing Wee poor hardware. It seems to be barely more powerful than the Wii U.

There are several more reasons than that, but based on the subjective perspective of gamers during the time of the Wii U launch, I'll accept this claim as one of the reasons.)

I put it down to bad marketing and the fact that noone actuelly knew the Wiiu was a seperate console. most thought it was a gamepad controller for their existing wii system.
