Topic: Reactivate download code

Hi everyone, my boys have both got a new switch each and set-up their nintendo account from the same email address.

My question is, if I delete the account off one of the consoles, will we be able to reactive the games and download codes, or will we have to repurchase the games?

Thanks in advance.

@Switchdad0002 Digital ownership of a game is forever tied to the nintendo account that bought/redeemed the code. And you can't transfer ownership to another account.

If you're going from one switch to multiple switch consoles, nintendo anti-piracy will restrict that game's ownership. Example: If you want to play a particular game on both consoles at the same time, you'll need to buy a second copy of the game (one copy per console).

EDIT: FishyS might be correct below, but I don't have experience with that.

@Switchdad0002 There is a standard way to share a digital game with 2 switches.

You can setup a primary console and a secondary one with the same account (the one which bought the game). As long as the person on the secondary Switch is connected to the internet both people can play at the same time, with the person on the primary console playing via a different profile.

This is actually the official way to share and is (mostly) explained on Nintendo's website:

https://www.nintendo.co.uk/Support/Nintendo-Switch/How-to-Pla...

Note that if the game requires NSO or online functionality, both consoles can't play at the same time. But if it's an offline game, both can play at the same time (although the secondary console has to be online just to check that it is allowed to play the game).

Note also that since the game sale is tied to the account and not the device, you can delete, change things around and redownload all you want. However cloud save only works on an account tied to NSO so you need to be careful if you change things and don't want to lose save files.

@WoomyNNYes Just for fun, I opened up Peach Showtime both on my OG switch and lite at once and it works fine to play both at once. Nintendo has gotten much nicer about sharing digital games since Switch first came out. Although it only works with 2 Switches, not 3.

Nice....but I have 3 OLED right now...and will be either 1 or 2 Switch 2 that makes it 5 Switches. Be nice if they allow that setup.

In an ideal world you'd be allowed to game share with anyone in your family group, but I doubt they'll ever implement it as it's far too open to abuse.

The way it works at the moment is OK for a 2-Switch family, but not great for anything else.

@FishyS : The most frustrating thing about the online check is that it does it for free apps as well (such as YouTube), but it's otherwise easy enough to work around it as long as there are no more than two consoles (and the secondary console can only access the game by opening it via the "owner's" user account).

Porygon did nothing wrong.
