If I’m playing breath of the wild and I want to change to a different game on another cartridge will there be enough internal memory space?

I’m just wondering if there’s enough internal memory to play different games. I guess I’m a little confused. Does each cartridge hold its own saves and stuff?

Switch has 32 GB of internal memory (about 25 GB available). Game saves are saved in internal memory and take a few MB for most of the games. So unless you're downloading a lot of games from eShop, the internal memory should work fine for saves/screenshots. If you download games from eShop, then you'll need a micro SD card.

Thanks for the reply. My concern was if I pulled out one game cartridge and put in another one can the other cartridge work or will there still be memory used up from the first game?

I don’t know if I’m explaining this right I just want to know if I can put in multiple game cartridges and not worry about the internal memory getting used up.

@desktop Yes, you can change cartridges without using up your storage space with the internal space.

It’s not like the Xbox One disc installs

Just beware that some physical games do have a mandatory download that will eat a lot of that internal storage. L.A. Noire is a good example.

Switch Physical Collection - 1,537 games (as of December 22nd, 2025)
Switch 2 Physical Collection - 4 games (as of December 8th, 2025)

So how true is that? Doesn't it go to the SD card when you have it installed.

The OP is talking about using internal storage only.

If he or she bought an sd card naturally this would be a non-issue.
