Hi everyone!

Brief backstory:
At one stage I had two switches one for me (second release switch) and one for hubby (first release switch). I was playing Pokémon Shield and he was playing Sword. I got a new switch to replace the first release switch so I moved my data across from my switch to the new one. I also moved hubby’s data from his switch to my old switch. We then sold the first release switch to a friend. This was all a few months back.

He recently tried to get back into playing Pokémon Sword (which he hasn’t done since the data was moved across) only to find that he’s starting a new game?

I’m really confused as I transferred all the data across? And I thought I had also saved it to the cloud (which I now realise isn’t a thing for Pokémon apparently?!).

Even more confusing is that my game HAS transferred across from my old switch to the new one!

Please does anyone have any ideas on how I can fix this?!

I have considered asking to borrow the sold switch from our friends but I’m not sure if it will help as I believe I reset it before selling it to them. Would hubby’s data still be there if I was to re login on as him on that switch? I just don’t want to waste their time as they live interstate if that data is long gone.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

@Charmily If you don't get a decent answer, Nintendo has pretty good support. Australia has it's own Nintendo support for that region.

If the game had Nintendo Switch Online cloud save backup support, and that Nintendo account user had a subscription, then perhaps you can still retrieve the game save data? However, I'm aware that a few Nintendo games do not get cloud save backup support. I don't know if Pokemon Shield/Sword are supported.

Disregard, this last part if you've already reviewed the transfer directions for games/NSO cloud save. Just pasting this link in case you hadn't looked. Most people that join here to ask tech questions usually haven't searched Nintendo Support. So I make a habbit of pointing to Nintendo support directions. If you have done that already, you're a head of the curve. (**Note: Ninetndo may have more than one page on the the topic.)

And Sword/Shield only allow for one save, so I wonder if that has something to do with it. I don't know.
