Topic: Persona 4 Arena Ultimax

A thread about anything to do with P4AU (any version).

I'm pretty conflicted about this: on one hand anything Atlus related gets my approval but I can't make up my mind about this. P4G wasn't ported to consoles (I know that a lot of people think that there's a deal between Sony and Atlus regarding Persona, although it was never actually confirmed anywhere, but if that was the case why isn't P4G on ps4 or ps5?). Why isn't this coming to Xbox considering that the original was on the 360? What does this mean for the rumoured Persona 5 Arena? This game involves characters from Persona 3 a game which you can only legally play on Ps2 and Ps vita but a port is nowhere to be found. In the livestream Teddie literally said that if you haven't played Persona 4 you should go and get P4G on Steam, at this point I'm losing every hope for a port to modern consoles and that's ridiculous: considering Sega's financial issues it's unbelievable that they are actually sleeping on a gold mine. I've already played every Persona game and I still own a Ps vita but it's beyond my understanding why they are treating their masterpieces like this: everyone should be able to play them everywhere.
Overall it's just Atlus being Atlus, we are probably gonna get the dancing games next year. At least this announcement was better than the first one (not a difficult task if you ask me).

I love this game, so I'm getting it for sure. I have good memories of playing this with my grandfather. For some reason he always beat me at it. But I digress, does this come with the DLC?

@Scooby-Doo Yes, I also have good memories of playing it on our Xbox 360 with my siblings, although one was a really bad loser, whenever she lost she'd swear really loudly. (I still play it often, might even play it tomorrow).

All I know is, I loved Persona 4 Dancing. I imagine I’ll love this too.

I'll probably get this on Steam, but I haven't played Persona 3, so I have no idea if I'll enjoy this or not. I heard it was probably best to play 3 before playing this, given that the story depends on you understanding stuff from 3. However, despite that, I want to get it just because it's a Persona fighting game.

I'd be a bit more optimistic about it if Atlus actually bothered porting Persona 4 Golden to consoles people own. if they did that I'd be more eager, but since P4A Ultimax itself is a sequel to Persona 4 Arena... it's like putting the final Star Wars movie on Disney+ without any of the previous ten movies.

@TheJGG It does really kind of suck, I agree. At this point I am almost certain that this whole anniversary thing is just to troll people. And, as you said, it is itself a sequel. I'm not sure it makes sense at all from a business standpoint.

@TheJGG P4A's story is DLC for P4AU so it's a reasonable assumption that the P4AU remaster has that DLC included in the base game. Doesn't solve the situation regarding P4G not being released on PS4 or Switch though.

I’m convinced at this point that the decision makers at Atlus are blind and deaf at this point. Seriously how hard is it to understand that consumers want to play mainline games on multiple platforms? Do they not understand the money they would make by doing so? If your company is hemorrhaging money like Sega according to their last few financial reports then you need to start listening to consumers.

@Scooby-Doo I don't know what's worse at this point, Atlus remastering a fighting game sequel to a fighting game sequel of a mainline Persona game, or PlatinumGames taking two years to release a shoot-em-up sequel to an arcade game released thirty years ago.

@Grumblevolcano Notwithstanding normal human logic porting P4G to Switch should be incredibly easy. But Atlus stuck their heads in the sand a while ago, explaining why they can't hear the fans.

Are they actually not putting Rollback Netcode on the switch?

@DomGC That's right, I wouldn't be surprised at all if this was the February announcement.

Maybe they will work on switch rollback after they finish it for the other two versions, due to architectural reasons (x86 vs arm), but I doubt it.
