@Yellowtails
One man's trash is another man's treasure. It's not something people are forced to use, so don't use it if you don't like it. Problem solved.
@Yellowtails
Yes, say what's wrong with using the application (having to have the screen on the whole time is an issue, I agree). However I think people are kidding themselves if they think the app isn't going to change between now and when they start charging for online. I also think it's ridiculous to not buy the game because a completely optional feature isn't up to a person's expectations. Splatoon is perfectly playable without voice chat.
@Captain_Toad Yes please. A simple Splatnet2 website would be suffice for me. @shaneoh Actually we kind of are forced to use it. Only the Splatnet2 shop offers gear with alternate main abilities.
Also, don't kidd yourself by thinking Nintendo will improve anything (why would they anyway?) after they charge for the online services. The only thing that will change is that everyone will be forced to pay.

@shani agreed I don't see Nintendo making changes specifically because we are paying now, especially because its just a small fee.
BUT we are also well aware the version we are currently using is missing features because we don't know what ones and how important of features they are then its hard to properly review this app
@ValhallaOutcast Yeah well they improved Miitomo a bit, so I'm hoping they will do that too. But they probably won't fix the essential flaws of it.
As someone who works in the IT sector, it really angers me that they can't produce a proper app from the start. It doesn't have to be flawless, every piece of software comes with its own bugs. But we're not talking about bugs here, we're talking about dramatic failure in the fundamental design of the app.
There are so many great software designers out there, I really don't get why Nintendo had to partner up with one of the worst studios.
@shani
You don't have to use the alternate abilities, you can make do with what you have.
They will also update the app after the paid service has launched, they're going to need to expand it to cover other online games when they release. There's no reason to think it won't be improved upon.

What makes you so sure? There's no evidence to support that theory.
Despite what some might believe, Nintendo are not introducing a paid subscription to provide better online services. They will simply do it to increase their profits.
The only reason online mode is not locked behind a paywall already is to get people hooked first. After playing Splatoon 2, ARMS and MK8D for a while online, people will get used to it and pay the annual fee.
There's really no reason to think it will be improved upon.
My GOTY? Legend Of Zelda: Splat of the child. Ah no, I meant LoZ: Breath of the SPLATOOOON!
@Snaplocket Absolutely, I'm totally content with the Switch's online gaming, also was content with online gaming on the Wii U. I don't think they have to improve anything in that regard.
I also don't need the voice chat function (and if I did, I'd probably use Discord). I only need Splatnet2.
But it's starting to get really annoying. They obviously didn't develop the Switch app with BT headsets in mind (despite the fact that they're quite common nowadays...). Every time I open the app while using BT the whole system crashes. No other app does that. And every voice-chat-enabled app or program that I know usually has voice settings and also lets you choose which device to use (or to turn it off completely).

They've updated Puzzle Swap haven't they? They weren't making money on that. There is no evidence to suggest they won't update the app. Like I said, other online games are going to want to use the app, so it will HAVE to be updated.
@shaneoh I was going to ask what puzzle swap is, but apparently it's a 3DS game. What does that have to do with the app? ^^
They've updated the original Splatoon numerous times, too, but that has nothing to do with the app either - because it's developed by someone else and serves a totally different purpose and - in contrast to the app - is unique.
The app is (probably) developed by DeNA, while Splatoon was developed by Nogami and his team of younger employees while I don't even know who exactly developed this Puzzle Swap.
And Splatoon and Puzzle Swap are actual games, whereas the Switch app is just a non-essential utility, an add-on to the Switch at best. With those games, they need to update them and fix bugs to keep the players happy - even if they don't make any money with that.
But the Switch app is not as important, it's just a tacked-on thing that everyone is complaining but no one is really caring about. It's just like Miitomo - which they also updated but still weren't able to rescue - people will just stop using it.
Simply because it's non-essential. Anyone who really wants voice-chat can just use Discord or any of the other services that actually have experience doing that.
But the aforementioned games are actually essential, because you can't replace them. There is no equivalent to them, they're unique.
And in contrast to the games, the Switch app doesn't so much suffer from having bugs but from terrible software design. No update can fix that, the only way to 'fix' it would be to completely dump it and to start from scratch.
And what other games do you mean? They could've included ARMS and MK8D - which would've made a lot of sense actually - when they launched the app but they just didn't care about it. They obviously didn't put any real effort into it in the first place, so why should that change all of a sudden?
Do you need further indication that this app doesn't have a high priority for Nintendo and that they won't throw any more ressources at it?
TLDR; But yeah, since we both don't have (or simply can't have) any evidence either way, I guess we'll just have to wait. I'm just saying: don't get your hopes up, you'll just be disappointed afterwards.

Developed by Nintendo. But DeNA are working for Nintendo in this instance, do you think Nintendo are going to be happy with a piece of software with such glaring issues?

Puzzle Swap was basically a demo of the streetpass capabilities of the 3DS, they certainly weren't obligated to add more content to the original piece of sotware, yet they did.

How about any other game that comes to the switch that utilises online play? Monster Hunter say? It's still reasonably possible for arms and mario kart to have voice chat implemented, or Nintendo may not think it's a necessity because they aren't primarily team based games.

We've had the app for, what, all of a week? It's too early to say Nintendo aren't going to invest any more resources into it. There is no reason to think that will be the case.
I still haven’t used this. Don’t have Splatoon. But have they made improvements yet to make it worth using? I hope it gets better with the online service.
