I've been thinking of buying it since i travel semi often & i've been looking for some impressions of it.

I went with the Butterfox case since it seems roomier than most. But that Hori case is on a whole other level of big.

Also picked up extra joycons so I can play with family members, a 200gb micro SD card, and the tempered glass screen protector.

Got my Switch and games from GameStop. All accessories from Amazon.

The Switch backpack is absolutely incredible. Each pocket and compartment has a logo for whatever item or accessory it houses. 8 Joycon pockets, Switch pocket, dock pocket, Pro Controller pocket, charge grip pouch, headphones compartment, game cartridge pouch, and lots of extra space for even more. You could fit your entire Switch carry case inside too, with even still more room to spare. Room for cords, chargers, you name it.

Also, I got a black tray from Walmart's website to set my Switch on and the case, so they don't sit on the carpet (makes it more firm ground which is perfect and exactly the right size I needed). I highly recommend for any who have their dock on the carpet.

Also, I love these cases. I use the Sheika case from the NA Zelda BotW special edition, but PDP sells the other one in their $35 starter kit on Gamestop's website. It's identical, just different design. Even have same round Zelda coin zipper and same Sheika symbol (the symbol on the blue case is on back of the Sheika case). Best case I've ever owned, fits charger, USB C cord and portable battery, plus 12 game cards. Could probably even fit a pair of earbuds too.

I'd say look at the pics, because I'd hate to tell you yes it would all fit in then you go and buy it and it turns out that it doesn't. I'm pretty sure you could fit all that stuff- I mean it is a backpack after all, but the binders and stuff you might have to put in the main compartment which is where the switch goes and the dock and the pro controller and all the joycons. Which may be fine but you could always put your switch in a different compartment so that your books aren't directly weighing against them.

I heard that too, hence I bought the top rated case on Amazon - Orzly

Thanks extragalact and lordred12345. I finally found the Nintendo case and I did purchase it. So far, it's not too bad, but you do have to put the system in a weird way. For now, it is fine but may invest in another harder case in the future.

Regarding screen protectors and cases, I went with the Orzly Tempered Glass one and it's great so far; although I spoilt the first one due to two lint pieces getting through and my OCD made me rip it off resulting in a ruined screen protector (I'm guessing). The second one succeeded; although may buy another pack for spares.

As for cases, the only two I was interested in was the Gioteck Premium and RDS Deluxe versions as they had the grooves shaped to the back of the Joycons. Although I preferred the RDS one I could only find it in the US so I went for the Gioteck one. A bit thick and has no identifiable external features of being Switch related, but it protects it and allows me to take my Joycon wrist straps, a USB cable, a stand and hopefully a collapsible USB plug once I acquire one (wonder if the new Apple ones work).

I finally received the Power A Switch Everywhere Messenger Bag (which I pre-ordered in Jan), and this thing is awesome. It's everything you need to take the Switch + dock + accessories on the go. Here's what will easily fit in the bag together:

1. Switch + JoyCons (and wrist straps)
2. Dock
3. JoyCon Grip
4. Pro Controller
5. Hori Compact Playstand
6. Anker PowerCore 10000
7. HDMI cable
8. Charging Cables
9. AC Power supply for dock
10. Power A Hybrid Cover

The Pro Controller and JoyCon Grip fit in the same space together. It’s not a perfect fit, they overlap a little, bit they fit together just fine.

The bag could also hold:

  • A larger power bank than the one I listed above
  • A couple of game boxes (in addition to everything above)
  • A larger internal carrying case. The case it comes with is fine, but if you want a larger one there’s space to swap it out (for example, the Surge Carryall Protective Travel Case will fit).
  • There is an extra zipper pouch on the back of the bag for cables and game boxes, extra JoyCons, etc.

The material is well made, nicely padded, and good quality. If you’re planning to bring your entire Switch console, dock, and all the accessories anywhere this bag is a great choice. Highly recommended.

I'd love to pick-up something like the Nyko Portable Docking Kit (below) at some point - my Orzly Carry Case seems like it'd have more than enough room for the Switch, a couple of extra Joy-Con (+ writst straps), the mini-dock and a HDMI cable (maybe not the power adapter, but I'd be okay with having that just loose in my bag) ..seems like that'd be a pretty handy little portable hybrid-gaming set-up, all safely tucked away in a reasonably compact little case!

Untitled

...these mini-docks don't appear to be available in my country (UK) quite yet, but I'd certainly be very interested in getting one (or similar) at some point - I'm not sure that playing multiplayer games (particularly split-screen) in tabletop mode would be ideal, so having a portable solution allowing you to quickly connect to the nearest TV would be great! Definitely on my 'must have' list!

Ya but I couldn't get a stable connection using Powerline adapters (they are old hand me downs from a coworker, and I was routing through a 100-year-old house's electrical wires from opposite end of the house downstairs). So I just ended up buying a new router and that was the end of that. Plus I prefer the wireless because I can lift it up out of the dark and the online connection doesn't disconnect. Which is great when I'm hunting in Monster Hunter XX I need to run downstairs for something after the quest has started

Ah, yes - I hadn't even considered that...could be quite a drawback to the wired option

I'm making a list of the "Ultimate Switch Accessories" that aren't on the normal accessories short list. Yes, we all know about the Pro Controller, microSD, case, tempered glass, etc. But these are accessories you may not have heard of, thought of, or realized their usefulness.

ULTIMATE SWITCH ACCESSORIES PT. 1

Basstop D-pad Joycon Mod
This d-pad is amazing and much better than the eXtremeRate brand d-pad. I can't imagine playing Switch portably without it. I love it so much I actually just ordered a 2nd set.

Untitled

Untitled

Micro SD Holder Cartridge
Ah. Another essential here. Whether you're on a budget and need to make several smaller micro SD cards work, or buy everything you want and have run out of space on a 1TB card, this accessories ensures you keep up to 3 TB of games with you at all times. I keep main games in the system card, with extra games that won't fit categorized by A-M on top card, and N-Z on the bottom.

Untitled

Untitled

Dualsense + 8bitdo Adapter
A recent discovery for me, the Dualsense with this 8bitdo adapter actually offers Gyro, rumble and system wakeup. Since the gyro in the Dualsense is so good, this is a crucial accessory if you want the least amount of gyro drift, or, a really excellent d-pad, or both.

Untitled

Hori D-Pad Joycon
This particular color can be imported from Amazon Japan or bought on eBay. I prefer the versatility of the Basstop d-pad mod, but for $25, this is an excellent alternative. Just note, it offers no gyro, rumble or wireless. Though most games use right joycon for gyro, so it still works, and rumble reverberates through the system so you still feel it, mostly evenly anyways.

Untitled

Surge Joycon Grip
The sideways joycon. It works in a pinch, but it ain't great. So many options exist to solve this issue, but I prefer these. They remain low profile yet still feel incredibly good in the hands. No accidentally pressing the shoulder buttons, though it still offers access to them. A must have imo, even if they aren't used all that often.

Untitled

Untitled

Untitled

Amiibo Mini-Cards
I love amiibo, and actually own every single one released to date, barring cereal boxes and cards. But they're not convenient when you travel, or just want to scan a bunch in regularly. Enter the amiibo mini-card. Incredibly professional, small and easy to store or carry, and even easier to whip out and scan a dozen in. If you play a certain game a lot, these can come in quite handy.

Untitled

Creative G6 DAC/Amp + Switcher
If you like quality audio but don't have surround sound, you'll want a good pair of wired headphones. But good wired headphones need amplification. This G6 DAC/AMP is the only one I'm aware of that is compatible out of the box for Switch, PS5 and PC. And that's what the USB switcher behind it is for. It comes with a remote- easily switch between audio on different systems as needed.

Untitled

Arctis 9 Wireless by SteelSeries
Want to play while voice chatting on Switch? Ha! Good luck! Unless... there were a wireless headset that could also connect to your phone and mix the audio. And that's exactly what we have here. Use Discord on your phone wirelessly via Bluetooth, while the headset connects to Switch wirelessly via dongle, and mix the audio. Hundreds of hours I've put into Monster Hunter using this with my brother. It's amazing.

Untitled

Nintendo Switch Dock Stand
Switch Dock isn't very stable on carpet. So, this stand present a cheap and easy solution. It also allows a tray to rest underneath you can slide out as needed, keeping whatever accessories you wish on the tray.

Untitled

Hori Hayabusa Arcade Pro V
Not everyone likes arcade sticks. But if you do, or you'd like to try one, this is the one to get. It's incredible. The wire (because it is wired, all arcade sticks go for low latency) tucks neatly unto a compartment on the top so it doesn't hang loose when not in use. And it's large enough to sit comfortably on your lap, unlike smaller, cheaper arcade sticks.

Untitled

Sennheiser Ambeo Soundbar + SVS-1000 Pro Subwoofer

This one is only for those who want the absolute best audio experience on Switch money can buy, and are willing to pay top dollar for it. It's not the only soundbar that's compatible, and there are many others that should work fine with Switch, which only needs 5.1 surround. However, this particular soundbar creates the "Ambeo 3D" effect even when the source doesn't supply Dolby Atmos 3D audio. It makes everything sound amazing. And while the soundbar is cited as not needing a separate subwoofer, hitting 30 Hz lows on its own, adding a subwoofer to it elevates the punch to a whole new level. Bass you can feel.

Untitled

Note: I'll be adding more accessories to the list as they come in and as I get pictures taken, such as the Nyko Block Charger, Custom Pro Controller with Xbox Elite style removable magnetic analog sticks, Waterfield Carry Bag, etc.

ULTIMATE SWITCH ACCESSORIES PT. 2

M-Classic
It's $100, but it applies a special type of Anti-Aliasing to the 2D image presented on screen, and can smooth out edges and lessen jaggies. It's a minor effect, but on some games it really does just give it that extra oomph to look clean, or just enough to keep it from looking crap. I saw great results on Fire Emblem Three Houses, for example. Undocking immediately revealed much more jagged edges I wasn't seeing on the TV.

Untitled

Waterfield Carry Case
If you travel, you'll need a dedicated Switch case. If you want to play docked at a hotel, you'll need a larger carry case. Enter Waterfield. They make a carry case that's not only classy, it has both a handle and shoulder strap, and fits everything you need for a docked Switch experience on the go.

Untitled

Untitled

Pro Controller Modded w/Xbox Elite Style Analog Sticks
The Switch Pro Controller. Easily my favorite Controller of all time. But the analog sticks, while fine, aren't as quality as a PS or Xbox controller's. This Pro Controller comes with removable analogs which magnetically clasp, and offer 3 different styles and sizes to choose from. Even if just using two standard size analogs, the quality of the analog's grip is closer to what you'd see on Xbox controllers. But to my surprise, the rounded dome mid-height analog is incredible for precise camera control on the right stick.

Wireless Keyboard
With no native voice chat, some games rely on preset and custom messages to communicate. While the Arctis 9 Wireless is a great option, all players wishing to voice chat will need one, whereas anyone can text. The problem is, texting is clunky and slow. If only you could use a keyboard for that... and as it turns out, you can. This Logitech wireless keyboard sees virtually no latency and instant response. It controls the entire eShop by itself, but otherwise only activates when a text box is open, be it a message in game, posting a picture to Twitter, etc. It's slim, lightweight, and can sit in your lap when playing Monster Hunter. When you need to type a message, it's sooo much easier with the right tool for the job.

ULTIMATE SWITCH ACCESSORIES PT. 3

TomToc Pro Controller Shell Case
Having a special case for your controller to ensure buttons aren't accidentally pressed in a bag is a useful accessory, but they take up so much space. This shell case ensures minimal space is occupied while still protecting your controller, and preventing button presses. Cheap and useful, just how we like it.

Untitled

Wavebird Controller + GC Adapter
Analog triggers. They're not used often but when they are, they're so nice to have. As it turns out, at least 3 different Switch games recognize the GC controller and utilize its analog triggers- Trials Rising, GRID Autosport and Super Mario Sunshine. If you're going to enjoy the GC controller on Switch, do it right... and by right I mean wireless. There is another option releasing next year, and I'll add it to the list once in hand, but for now, Wavebird is unquestionably the best experience you can obtain on the system for analog support.

Untitled

Dobe Joycon Chatpad Grip
Ever played a game like Monster Hunter Rise or Animal Crossing, and wanted to text a custom message to a friend, but decided the on screen keyboard was so slow and clumsy, why even bother? Of course you have. And, the keyboard previously featured in Part 2 of this series definitely addresses that issue. But, it does mean keeping it in your lap, and setting your controller down every time you use it. Wouldn't it be nice if there was a chatpad built right into your controller? With the Dobe wireless keyboard chatpad, there is. And I am happy to report it works flawlessly, lag free. It's not as fast as a larger keyboard, but it's far more convenient to use. And tbh, it's fast enough. Certainly much more so than the on screen keyboard. If you play games which allow texting, this is a great buy.

ULTIMATE SWITCH ACCESSORIES FINALE

Xbox Series X Controller WITH GYRO
This one is nothing short of a gaming miracle. Everyone knows the Xbox controller doesn't include a gyroscope or accelerometer, and as a result cannot use gyro aiming. But the Brook X One SE Adapter has stepped up to deliver what many of us thought was impossible... gyro aiming for Xbox controllers. It works flawlessly. It can't wake the system (hopefully that gets added in a firmware update) but even so, the ability to play wirelessly with a Series X controller with gyro on Switch is easily the most impressive entry of this accessories list. Also works for Elite Series 2 Controller.

ULTIMATE SWITCH ACCESSORIES PT. 4

Rev. 2 Binbok Slim Joycon
The first revision was promising, but had one too many issues to make the list. Cheap plastic felt horrible, the D-pad was garbage and mine would randomly disconnect in handheld mode and reconnect. But now we have the Rev. 2 Binbok Slims. The plastic feels high quality and smooth, the D-pad is better to the point its usable (I'd still stick with a Basstop modded D-Pad joycon or Hori D-Pad joycon for fighters), and at least so far, no quality control issues. These feel terrific. A must have addition for any Switch aficionado.

Untitled

Homespot Pro Adapter
Ok, so you've seen the Arctis 9 Wireless, a great solution for voice chat on Switch. But it's not the best option for voice chat in handheld mode, because the wireless dongle is USB-A and has a long cord. But there is another option- the Homespot Pro Bluetooth Adapter. Using aptx LL codec, it ensures latency stays in the 40 ms range. Pair first button with aptx LL bluetooth headphones, and the second button with your phone using Discord or whatever other app you like. It mixes the audio, and has a built in mic as well, since headset mic audio will not work in this setup. Because of that, its great for handheld voice chat specifically. Which is perfect since the Arctis 9 Wireless covers docked voice chat.

Untitled

USB Dock Hub
This thing is a Godsend. It doesn't fit the new OLED dock, unfortunately, but using an Ethernet USB adapter with the original dock, you can get the same functionality yet take advantage of this wonderful USB Hub which seats the dock on top. I have a 4-USB port adapter connected to my bottom external USB port, and this hub connected to the top, with the Ethernet adapter using the USB-port inside the dock. Altogether that makes for 8 USB ports besides the one used for Ethernet. Perfect for running all kinds of connections- wireless dongle for chatpad, GC adapter, 8bitdo adapter, wireless keyboard, Arctis 9 wireless, pairing cable, etc.
