Okay, take this with a grain of salt, but I just tweeted that Mother 2 will be one of the 35 Mario Games remastered for the Mario Anniversary Collection of Remasters, only it won’t be remastered; just translated. I think it could be true. 65-97% positive. Friday or later. Or sooner! Probably later, but Friday.
@Ninfan - (Shhh, nobody actually said it, but you gotta admit, that’s a smoking hot take. You can imagine what it’d be like if some did say that, am I right? Anyway, I figure it’s win/win to throw it out there. If I’m right, I’ll be king if the internet for a day, and if I’m wrong; I’ll just change my user name. I don’t like mine anyway. )
@bimmy-lee I can't have too much sodium in my diet, so I find it offensive that you would be so dismissive of my health as to suggest I should have salt if I want to believe Mother is coming. I think you're just making this up. Nintendo have already said many times they don't like Earthbound, and only included Ness and Roy in Ultimate so they could feature the game in sponsored tournaments. But I'll still wait to see what happens on the 5th Friday because the speculation is fun and good natured.

If I were a producer working at Nintendo, I would develop a Super Mario game for release this year that once again takes place at Subcon with lots of Shyguys, Snifits, Tweeters, Beezos plus lots of new enemies. Favorite bosses such as Mouser, Triclyde and Fry Guy also return.
@HobbitGamer - Sorry to give you a total eclipse of the heart, but even though Nintendo said it won’t happen, that doesn’t necessarily mean it won’t happen. Winky Winky.
@Don@Slowdive
I second that!
Super Mario Bros. 2 was one of my favorites as a child and it still holds up very well because it's so unique.
I remember once SMW came out on SNES, I rarely went back to SMB3. Just like SMB3 replaced SMB1, SMW replaced SMB3 for me. However, there was never a replacement for the gameplay of SMB2 and I kept playing it regularly until the N64 days when 3D platformers overtook everything.
@Slowdive nate the hates whole livelyhood is based on people like you believing him and then listening to his podcast for inside info. I'd much prefer spawnwave just giving us the daily news. Listening to nate the hate is like going back to a fortune teller who got an hour's worth of predictions wrong but did say you may find new love. What a huge prediction (sarcasm) but you want it t be true so you believe it. Fortune cookies are more accurate. Nice podcast though even if it's 99% BS.
I swear every time I come onto this thread, the rumours and leaks of what to expect from the next Direct changes in both the format and the dates. It goes from this big General Direct to perhaps being a Mini to who knows, it may not even happen. It almost seems like leakers are covering their backs so whatever happens they can be sure t be right.
The same goes for that whole Mario anniversary thing which seems to also have shifted its reveal dates around. In fact, Jeff Grubbs has even on a recent podcast said it may not happen until early next year. Again feels like they are making sure that if nothing happens, they can't possibly be wrong - it just got delayed that's all. Like those other games over the past several years that were leaked and never came out.

These leakers are starting to become cult like, they use promises of the enlightenment of future game knowledge for followers and then there's a convoluted reason why the mothership didn't pick them up on doomsday.
So, to summarize: there may or may not be either a full general or mini direct, a Mario one or another partners showcase ... ? Which may or may not have any games ever revealed, leaked or speculated about covered in them? This may or may not happen sometime this month, next month or later this year? Otherwise, it'll definitely happen sometime next year! Unless it doesn't ....
@FragRed The only thing I believe is we're getting some Mario games! From the wording of the original stories back in march (most mario games) I think that could mean 2D (New Super mario bros series? game boy games?) as well as 3D...
Beyond that everything is speculation. I hope we get a proper Direct, but I doubt it, we'll see!!
It will have been pretty much a whole year since their last proper Direct. If this upcoming thing isn't a real Direct, do those even exist any more?
I wonder if they will become the main annual E3 only presentation and they'll use Indie Worlds, Partner Show Cases and shadow drops for everything else?
Nintendo hinted at life beyond Directs not too long ago.
@Slowdive Don’t expect 2021 to be much better for Nintendo. Keep those expectations low. If they struggled with the pandemic this much this year, and we know it’s not going away until sometime next year when vaccines become accessible (assuming they have any real affect), Nintendo will still need to get back up and running then make up for all that lost development time before they can even begin to get things back on track. In other words everything is almost certainly going to be delayed well. My thoughts is expect loads of shadow drops, a Mini Direct or two and more partner showcases.

Yeah, I do get it, @Slowdive .... I'd love a proper half hour+ direct, with top 1st & 3rd party games & everything, too! I just wouldn't get too hopeful for awhile, then I'll be delighted if there's anything but not disappointed if there isn't, that's about all
