For me the issue with PS5 Pro isn't that it isn't needed or that mid-gen revisions are somehow a "money extraction" scheme. The issue is more that the PS5 is already a fairly expensive console and they're coming out with something even more expensive
I know I'm not the target market for it. I'm fine with whatever Nintendo puts out and for when I want more power I'll go to PC. But still, at some point surely we have to stop and ask whether or not $800AU+ is still a sensible price for a device that only plays games

The PS5 Pro timing seems poor. They just released a complete and total failure of a game, there are very few 1st party games/reasons to buy another machine, and they are launching a more expensive version of a console that already runs and performs well. I am not an expert at all, haven't owned a PlayStation system since the PS3, so I may be missing something here. It just seems like there isn't a need, and this may lead to not only a costly mistake, but another way to erode trust. When we were asking for a Switch Pro, it's because like others have said - the system struggles. I am just not seeing why this is needed, or how it helps. The downside, though, seems like it could be pretty big.
Only saving grace for PlayStation is how good Astro Bot is being recieved critically, but it's silver lining at best since Concord was... let's be honest an inevitable failure.
Yeah, Sony releasing the PS5 Pro just seems crazy. We're barely coming off a point where devs. are not consistently releasing PS4 games and it's already time for a "revision"?! Not to mention, it doesn't even feel like devs. have even come close to realizing the power of the PS5. Those rumored prices for the pro are insane too.
I know Nintendo got some flak for keeping the Switch around this whole time and never releasing a revision, but kudos to them.
I will never understand GTA hype. Like, I get that it's super big with 14-16 year olds, but how many people in that age bracket can afford a console mid-gen upgrade?
Easy... just convince your rich clueless parents to spend $700 to buy their young children a console for a game only allowed for ages 18+ 😆
It will be very interesting to see if GTA6 sells anywhere near as well as GTA5. I'm biased, but I hope it doesn't.
I also kind of hope Switch 2 reveal is close after PS5 pro reveal and completely obliterates the PS5 Pro hype. 😅
PS5 pro feels so pointless, it’s so expensive, and majority of big games on PS5 can easily still be played on PS4. The games are growing slower than the console, which makes the PS5 pro feel pointless. I hope it flops, I really don’t think it’s worth it at all.
Anyways, is it correct that we’re getting Super Mario Party Jamboree previews next week?
@Lazz
Meanwhile, I got supported 60 fps boost from my PS5 machine for some of my PS4 games that get fps boost compatibility such as Ratchet & Clank PS4, Cars 3 Disney Pixar, Stranded Sails, Zorro The Chronicles, Paw Patrol games from PS4 version, etc.
I bought PS5 just for playing 3rd party kids games in 60 fps that Switch version rarely get that performance, I only play Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart for the 1st party on PS5.
@Anti-Matter To be fair, people are questioning the need for a more expensive PS5 Pro. PS5 obviously does some things PS4 doesn't but is the smaller difference in PS5 and PS5 Pro worth the extra price?
@FishyS
Imagine if buying PS5 Pro with that expensive price and just only for playing kids games like Peppa Pig or Bluey or even Barbie. 😆
The kids games in Hyper power of PS5, with smooth 4K 120 fps. Wow! 😁
I can give a lot of reason why better play kids games than AAA games.
And yes, I have gone on that site and some of the people there sadly seem very against people playing on non-PlayStation systems, and especially hate people who like to play on Xbox.
I think that is partially in jest... my coworker is an XBox player and we go back and forth for ages about his consoles VS my (Nintendo) consoloes. Lol!
@Anti-Matter that makes complete sense. The base PS5 is an incredible system, and the PS4 upscaling is an awesome feature. I 100% understand why you have it - and if I had more time + $ I would consider it.
My critique is focused on the Pro and the additional power + price, I have a hard time believing there will be high adoption. Is the base PS5 being pushed yet? I'll be curious to see if Sony answers the "why" when revealing the new system.
I think price and the rumours about no disc drive harm PS5 Pro's potential. Mid gen revisions used to not only provide more power at the original price but also force down the price of the original model. For example there were PS4 Slim bundles in Holiday 2016 (PS4 Pro released in November 2016) at around £200.
But with PS5 we're seeing price increases, so the Pro is probably really absurdly priced and the no disc drive rumours come from no disc drive trying to hide the absurd price. Further suggests that the best time to get a PS5 would've been during those temporary big July 2023 - March 2024 discounts.
I own a PS5 myself and it only sits there to collect dust at this point. My PC outpaces the PS5 immensely, and so I'm probably just going to stick to gaming on it.

The console wars are alive and well I see. I play both Nintendo and Playstation about equally, so it's hard to imagine hoping one will fail just to stick it to their fans.
I don't really care about Playstation these days but what I do resent is media touting Pro models as 'elite gaming systems.' It's so us and them that I hate it. We live in a world where grown ups have better gaming consoles than their children. And I find that shocking! When I was a kid I wanted the best gaming console. It's just...weird.
I never drive faster than I can see. Besides, it's all in the reflexes.
I don't want any to fail. The more competition the better. My issue is just that Nintendo is the only company that actually makes it worth buying their consoles now. I haven't booted up my PS5 since Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and I would've played that game on PC if it released on Steam the same day.
I actually had an XBOX a while back, but it collected dust the same way that my PS5 is doing now. Mostly because I had nothing worth playing on my XBOX outside of Jurassic World Evolution and Final Fantasy XV.

@VoidofLight Not everyone has a high end PC to play triple A games, and not everyone would even prefer that. Just because you don't use yours doesn't mean Sony didn't make the system worth buying.
Meanwhile, peoples here really derailed the thread for talking trash about PS5 Pro on Next Nintendo Direct thread.
I personally wonder and felt funny if the intention to buy PS5 Pro with more power & price just only for playing simple kids games that doesn't even need ultra specs like Peppa Pig or Bluey or even Barbie. 😆
And it will be funnier if the performance of those simple kids games way much better on PS5 Pro than the Switch version with some hiccups. That means the Switch power cannot handle those kids games properly and it shown the outdated technology of Switch machine in handling certain 3rd party games.
I mean, come on...
The simple kids games with size 1 GB like Story of Seasons A Wonderful Life or Doraemon Story of Seasons can run in smooth 60 fps on at least PS4 power but 30 fps (and below) for Switch version?
That was lazy excuse to not optimize their fps to have same 60 fps on both Switch and PlayStation version.
@Sigran102 Oh I know that. The issue with the PS5 isn't that it isn't worth buying because of PC, but it isn't worth buying because the games they have to offer aren't something you couldn't just get on other platforms. Sony has 0 games worth getting a PS5 for when you could just get most of those games on PS4, PC, or XBOX. Also the argument that "Not everyone can get a PC" is starting to become more and more moot as console generations begin rising the price higher and higher. The PS5 Pro is going to be 800 dollars retail. For that money you could literally just build a decent quality gaming rig and no longer be shackled to the ecosystem of Sony in the first place.
At this point in time Consoles are slowly trending to become worse gaming PCs. You pay a similar amount for something on par with a PC, but instead of it being a multi-purpose machine that doesn't tie you down to a specific ecosystem- you're at the mercy of the corporation who is roping you into their ecosystem. Being told when and how you can play your games. Sony is able to remove your digital games from your Playstation library at any time they choose. PC has a ton of work-arounds to the point that even if a game is taken off of steam, it isn't the only way to get ahold of said game.
