The next Nintendo Direct is supposedly on Tuesday the 18th, possibly earlier in the day (probably depends on timezone).

Here's a question. If Nintendo announced the date in advance like Microsoft and Sony would it make the wait for them any easier?

1000% yes that would make it easier. Just the fact Nintendo said June already made it easier; I feel like the whole community has been less stressed for the last month because of that. It would be really nice if Nintendo gave is the exact date at least a week in advance. Or even a few days. Then we wouldn't have to wait for leakers.

I noticed that Halloween is on a Thursday this year, Nintendo may do something for it considering the last time it happened (2019) they chose to release a game on that specific day (LM3) despite Friday releases being the norm at the time.

@Grumblevolcano Nintendo’s been releasing games on Thursdays recently anyways, so this is a perfect opportunity. (Whether it be Luigi’s Mansion 1 like @Novamii said or another game). Nintendo always likes releasing games late October, so this is a good chance to do so!

@Novamii It’s the only game in my top 10 favorite games that isn’t on Switch, so if it happened that would complete my top 10 being on 1 console!

@Grumblevolcano That’s not a bad theory. I was thinking early October would be a better place for MP4, but that would also work.

@Novamii What are you betting on? Hopefully both things happen, no matter what happens to our profile pictures XD

So there is a rumour about a Suika Game part of the direct. Will we get Suika 99?? Or is it something boring like Suika DLC skins. Or open world adventure game Suika spinoff 😝

@Novamii I hope both things happen! I never got to play Kid Icarus Uprising, so I’d be really glad to have it on Switch! That Namco rumor is also very interesting, especially with their connection with Masahiro Sakurai.

@FishyS obviously the open world adventure

I’d probably say DLC of some sort, could be in the part of the Direct where they go through several smaller things really fast.

I'm hurtin for a direct myself. Hoping it's this week. A new 2D zelda would seal the deal for me.

All I want is to see a new 2D Zelda if these leaks are to be believed. I have plenty to play on my Switch, but that would be awesome.

On my personal note, and I know many of you disagree with me on this, I do think we’re gonna see Prime 4 and it’s gonna get the holiday slot for the original Switch this year. Maybe a Switch 2 upgrade or whatever will come down the line, but again, Metroid games do not sell as well as people want to believe. A spotlighted holiday release on the system with the second-largest install base ever has the best shot at bringing Nintendo the return they want on a title that they probably put lots of money into given the development length and changes.

One thing I noticed was that in the UK, Nintendo started selling Switch bundles where you get Metroid Dread for free (there's another bundle with Big Brain Academy + Everybody 1-2-Switch for free but Dread was the major bundle).

Even if they both launched alongside each other, I just see Mario stealing the spotlight.

Not necessarily on launch day, but Nintendo will need an early showcase of power. 3D Mario will inevitably be graphically impressive but most people will see it and think 'cartoony' so won't fully really feel that power increase.

Obviously there will at least eventually be third party games, but Prime 4 seems like one good option for Nintendo to show they can run fancier looking things on new hardware. Or maybe they will have a version of TotK with better grass or whatever instead. But they need something just to convince people this piece of hardware may be able to run final fantasy or such.

I’m under the impression that MP4 will be a holiday 2024 title, not the big one. Definitely doesn’t make sense to be a launch title or even Nintendo’s key holiday game. If I had to guess it’d be an early October game, possibly even later in October.

My guess is that we could be getting a DK or some type of Mario as the holiday title this year. Even Pokemon or Kirby has a chance to take that slot.

@FishyS Problem with that is that unless development was rebooted again, Prime 4 is being developed around the Switch 1's capabilities and limitations, which would mean that it won't take full advantage of Switch 2's capabilities or be able to properly show them off.

@Ulysses - You are 100% correct. I've got my "this would be amazing" list while expecting 28 minutes of farming sim games with a single announcement that might be something I'm interested in. So truly it is low expectations, and I am okay with that. Nintendo almost always surprises me in a good way, and I have a high confidence level that this direct will do the same. I will have my hopes, but Nintendo has much smarter people than me and they constantly make the best games (IMO) - so there's a lot of trust.

There aren't many things that hype me up as much as the Nintendo reveals, and I think a big part of that is that my kids love Nintendo as much as I do. I've started watching the directs with them, and it has been awesome.

@FishyS
Not to be snarky or anything, but maybe having the Final Fantasy VII reboot at launch for Switch 2 would be a better demonstration that Switch 2 can handle games like the FF VII reboot?

@PikminMarioKirby
“Holiday” game release slots are indeed referring to Oct-Dec.

Nintendo is generally good at optimizing games for it's own consoles, but also I just don't know if FF would come out at launch; a lot of the more impressive 3rd party ports on Switch took a while to come to Switch. I honestly don't know; depends what is happening behind the scenes. Having both a first party and third party graphical showcase game relatively early seems reasonable though.

If Metroid Prime 4 realises the full potential of the original Switch (something Retro pride themselves on) then we aren't going to be disappointed. There are going to be some folk who still wish it would be on more powerful hardware but they need to have a seat and wait for Metroid Prime 5 lol.

I reckon we'll see Silksong.

There'll be a couple of games from other ip than Mario. Star Fox, DK (new Jungle Beat pls!). F-Zero and Zelda.

The headlines will be filled with third party games where we will all be crying "finally!" Ace Combat, FF TActics, BGaE, Madden etc.

It can be an amazing Direct without needing new entries in their biggest series (which any betting man knows they will be for their next console.)

Price drop for Switch come the holidays.

Announcement of Switch 2 reveal in February (everyone is skint and disinterested in January lol). Trailer late February. Show in March. Launch whenever they like, it's going to sell lol.

Right. I'm always wrong, Nintendo always surprise me. But I reckon it could be a glorious penultimate Switch Direct that leads into the final destination Direct for the holidays

I never drive faster than I can see. Besides, it's all in the reflexes.

I think the argument that Prime 4 would be "lost" on Switch 2 alongside new Mario etc is a fairly weak argument. People have not just the capacity for multiple big games in a console launch cycle but also an expectation. The Switch and its games did not suffer just because it came out of the gate with new Mario, new Zelda, new Splatoon. Also effectively a new Mario Kart for the people who skipped Wii U. What instead happened is that the overall sales were great because Nintendo rapidly build a perception of a deep library and a well supported platform which in turn translated to great sales for all games

Secondly, Metroid doesn't appeal to as wide an audience as some of Nintendo's other IP. It's comfortably the smallest of their "big three". This is true. But I would argue that the audience it attracts lean heavily towards the enthusiast end of Nintendo's fanbase. You can argue that on Switch the game would have a wider audience if you want but I'd argue the audience for Prime 4 is picking up Switch 2 anyways. And as enthusiasts they're not going to skip it just because a Mario also comes out on Switch 2 within 6 months of it. They're enthusiasts, they'll be there for all the things

..... but the target audience for Prime 4, I would argue, might well skip it if it's Switch only. Because they're the sort of person who is also holding out for Switch 2
