Again, 3DS is also 240p and Wii U isn't portable. Frankly I have OoT on 3DS, Wii VC, Wii U VC and NSO and of all of those options if I was to play it again it'd be via one of those decompilation projects.... then NSO.... then 3DS...

Wind Waker and Twilight Princess? The Wii U remakes are the best way to officially play them but they're not portable. Right now, IMO, the best way to play those games is through emulation on something like a Steam Deck. And for Wind Waker I wouldn't blame you for picking the GC original and running it at high res with to get rid of that bloom effect the Wii U version had. But the point is the best way to play these now is an open question with all roads leading you to not giving Nintendo money

Meanwhile Skyward Sword? There's no such quandary. The Switch version is well done and convenient. And that fact is even more true for something like TTYD or Metroid Prime. Which is, frankly, a good thing from Nintendo's perspective because that version is still available for purchase

I'm just not gonna believe anything until it's officially announced, it was like that with the Switch Pro/2 for the last 5 years or something. You know, that Switch successor that was supposed to launch years ago and delayed till next year, for...like...the last multiple years? xD (at least Nintendo finally said something so now we know it's being revealed)

As for this Direct, I don't know what to believe (well, besides what Nintendo said and no Switch 2)...just gonna hope Metroid Prime 2 Remastered is revealed, and then releases on the same day. Only game that is most likely going to happen for me.

Still hoping for Tomodachi Life and Rhythm Heaven, though...but I doubt it.

The Japanese Nintendo youtube account uploaded the LM2 overview trailer.

So the English version will probably be a NoA tweet in around 12 hours from now.

I personally think one of the HD Zelda remasters is a safer bet than Prime 2. Mostly because some of the leaks pre Prime Remastered talked about it but not Prime 2. The story being that Retro had been tasked with 4 as a result of Nintendo being impressed with their work on the remaster of 1. Of course that was a long while ago so anything could've happened since but.... I'd imagine 4 has been a bit of a time sink

But the Zelda HD Remasters? Those already exist on Wii U. Of course they could be pushed further but in terms of minimum viable product It already exists and just needed to be ported

I think if we see something Metroid this year, IMO, it could just as easily be something like a remaster of Samus Returns via or something. I see something like that about as probable as Prime 2

...I thought Retro started working on 4 way before Prime Remastered came out...? I can't remember...
As for Zelda games, I dunno...I would like Wind waker, but I'm hoping for other games more at the moment...games that won't happen sadly...I'd like to be proven wrong, though.

The ego in three gaming community of people wanting to be "insiders" with sources and posting leaks just turn me off.

I believe Midori is a credible leaker, They've leaked a couple things about Persona that I believe were found to be true. So I'm hoping the talk of Twilight Princess for Switch is a legit thing. I'd love to play through it again, It's been too long. It'd be an even sweeter deal if Wind Waker came to switch as well.

Usually leaks happen due to a lack of transparency on behalf of companies.

Yes. But the rumour at the time, before it came out, was that a remaster of Prime was done and ready to go. With it being work commissioned before Prime 4 was handed to Retro and the solid progress being a large part of the reason why they were given Prime 4

But yeah, I'm not super convinced Prime 2 is also ready to go from what I remember of that leak. Has been a good while but so who knows

I don't think you've really looked at Ebay or Mercari lately if you don't think you can get a 3DS under a hundred bucks. I don't know if I'm allowed to post a link here, but I just did a quick search on Ebay and one of the first results is a used galaxy purple 3DS with a charger for 100 bucks.

And what I'm saying is that the games do hold up, especially in their HD forms on Wii U and the Ocarina remaster on 3DS. Twilight Princess HD is a fantastic way to play the game. You're off your rocker, dude.

Yea, they don't have the same teams working on the remasters as they do on the main Zelda games, but time and energy is time and energy. Instead of putting one of the auxiliary teams on remaking Wind Waker and Twilight Princess for the second time, they could have been working on a smaller creative title in the Zelda universe that is actually NEW. Given the choice, give me the NEW title any day - I can already play the old ones.

I think most people looking at it objectively would say there's plenty of scope for Twilight Princess HD to push the asset quality a tad further. Of course you could well make the argument that that aesthetic is part of the style of the game. Aesthetic is a subjective thing after all. And, personally, I wouldn't be that opposed to them just dropping this game on Switch as it was on Wii U. Because it'd be nice to have a proper portable version

....... but I think you've got blinkers on if you think that, technically, what we had on Wii U was "fantastic". It was, well, fine. Especially as a 2016 Wii U title. I certainly enjoyed revisiting it when it released on Wii U. But "fantastic" isn't the word I'd use to describe it. It was a reasonable amount of effort for a bit of fan service late on a poorly performing console. But it wasn't a "fantastic" effort

Yeah, nah. Wind Waker HD hits a decent level of quality for the style it's attempting. Twilight Princess, both the HD version and the original, does not and never has. It could easily be improved dramatically with a relatively low amount of effort

Also this "do something new instead" bit is an old and tedious meme. That's not how this works. A lot of these remasters are farmed out to smaller studios. The ones that aren't are often used as tools for building up talent or more efficiently using talent in certain parts of development cycles. Or, heaven forbid, used as low risk/high reward projects that fund more experimental releases

But the core point is, Twilight Princess could be a LOT better. Even just being properly portable would be a huge win. Frankly I don't think this argument against is very compelling at all

WW and TP do not need second remasters. Put the dev time toward new stuff.

I booted up Twilight Princess on the Wii a couple weeks ago and although it looked pretty still, it just seemed so washed out now, something I didn't think when I first played. I've never played the Wii U version, but I would love any HD version on Switch, whether it is a new remaster or just a port of the Wii U version.

The only thing I can comment about whether or not there should be remasters is that there are a LOT of people who have only owned a Switch and don't have the means/interest to emulate or get any of the previous consoles, so remasters/port/remakes are the only way such games will reach this audience - and very often, how they can reach many more people than they ever did during their previous release(s), as we have seen from those originally from the Gamecube and WiiU.

Grumblevolcano

I look at it that Switch is the Nintendo platform, that each port/remaster/remake is one step closer to the ultimate goal of Switch being the only Nintendo system you need because the other Nintendo consoles' libraries are on the Switch. Physical is far better than digital so naturally a port/remaster/remake is a lot better than just dumping the games on NSO.

Regarding Twilight Princess in particular, I'd say the best outcome would be just porting over the Wii U version in a double pack with Wind Waker HD.

PikminMarioKirby

They’ll probably charge $60 for TP and WW WiiU ports each and people will still get them. It’d be a joke putting it on the same price as Link’s Awakening and TTYD as those are fully remade even with new content. I feel like $50-60 for both together would be a fair deal.

@PikminMarioKirby yeah, most likely. Zelda and Mario games almost always run for full price because Nintendo knows no matter how expensive the games are, they have a “legend of Zelda” logo slapped on it so parents would outright buy these games for their kids without much thought. When Nintendo eventually does put wind Waker and twilight Princess on switch, you’ll see people complain about the pricing, the 30fps, all the usual grievances before they just go to GameStop and buy both WW and TP. They are valid concerns, but chances are, most people will just be happy they are finally on modern consoles again and just buy them. Which I am probably going to do as well, even though I own TP on Wii! (60 dollar US price tag for both would be awesome, but yeah you’re probably right)
