@FragRed Best case scenario for that I think would be Nintendo and Sega doing an F-Zero GX remaster which would be awesome!
But I'll keep my expectations low for the time being. @Fizza Edit: Eternal Darkness is not a bad shout tbf
Either that or they're planning on releasing the Switch in the atlantic ocean for dolphins to enjoy XD
@Grumblevolcano Please be wrong I dont want to wait another year for cool games 😭
Space and Games are similar. Space is endless and new stuff is out there waiting to be discovered. Games are always being made but the creativity is different from one game to another and so many more ideas still haven't been imagined or created yet. (That came out better than expected lol)
If Nintendo were to go for maximum variety, the Star Fox franchise has been MIA outside of the Ubisoft collaboration in Starlink and the GCN games were developed by 3rd parties (Adventures by Rare, Assault by Namco).

@FishyS That was a typo, I found and edited it but I guess you were too busy typing your reply to see it. I meant 2D Zelda hasn't cracked 10 million which is true, the highest selling 2D Zelda as you pointed out is ALttP at 7 million.
As for the notion of it getting up to 10 million? Maybe, but I doubt it'll be much more. And I don't think they'll be able to do something to make 2D Zelda that much more popular. Part of the reason behind BotW's popularity is likely because it's a grand, realistic, 3D open world game. I don't think 2D Zelda can simply copy that to see such a huge sales bump and I'm struggling to think of anything that could get it there. I could potentially see 2D Zelda getting up to say, 10-15 million, but I don't think it's getting to 20-30 million like BotW and TotK. And 10-15 million isn't enough for it to be Top 4 like @VoidofLight is claiming, 10-15 million would make it more like Top 15.
@Grumblevolcano I would love to see an actual Star Fox game in the vein of Starlink, I think that is exactly the style of gameplay Star Fox needs to do better in sales (I know I for one have never really been interested in Star Fox but would play it in that style). Now I know Starlink itself didn't do well, but I suspect that's because of the TTL gimmick and because it's not actually a Star Fox game, it's a third party game with a Star Fox cameo. I think if Nintendo developed or published a full-fledged Star Fox game in Starlink style open world space adventure it could bring Star Fox a bit more mainstream success and possibly become the best selling Star Fox game of all time.
@Bolt_Strike My main point was that If you count Zelda remakes then Link's Awakening topped 10 million and if you don't count Zelda remakes than literally no Zelda (2D or 3D) topped 10 million except BotW/TotK. So it's not 2D versus 3D, it's BotW versus not BotW. It might be hard hitting that magic again with 2D Zelda, but it might be almost as hard hitting that magic again with 3D Zelda also. We know from Mario that 3D doesn't automatically sell massively more than 2D, it just depends on the particular game. I believe Zelda as a whole is the 5th largest Nintendo franchise behind Pokemon, Mario platformers, Mario Kart, and exercise games (this one is arguable since technically it is the mostly dead 'Wii' series in 4th but exercise games are the concept which remains). If you start breaking up into 2D versus 3D though? Then both 2D and 3D Zelda are below both 2D and 3D Mario (unless you restrict yourself to Switch sales) so then they wouldn't be top 4 even if you ignore my questionable Wii category. To me, it makes much more sense just to say Zelda as a whole is in top 4 or 5 rather than breaking up into 2D and 3D. Which I suspect is the same thing @VoidofLight was thinking.
I agree with you that trying to copy the open world concept with 2D wouldn't sell well, it would have to be a fundamentally new and creative 2D Zelda even to get to the 10-15 million realm. Do I think they could make such a game as an early console seller? yes. Do I think they will? Honestly, more likely they will throw out some 3D or 2D remake and say 'look, we have some Zelda'. But I can dream...
As a side note, Zelda comes almost every year so I do think something will be announced this year whether it is a filler game this year or something post-Switch-2 release. We can talk about the first year of the new console being packed, but Nintendo is almost always pretty good at giving us our one Zelda/spinoff and 2 Mario/spinoff games a year even in non-packed years.
I think 2D Zelda is more than likely something that we see from partnerships with external parties going forwards. Similar to how we've seen with Metroid.
The series doesn't have the cachet with the mass market that 2D Mario has. I think it's also a "thing" that Mario in 2D has prospered partly because it's been positioned as a local multiplayer game. They've attempted it but it's never really worked for Zelda - I suppose because the moment to moment gameplay of 2d isn't as compelling and the puzzle solving isn't as immediate.
The really poor reaction to Tri-Force Heroes might have been a bit of a death blow too TBH.

I'm not counting remakes because those are separate releases. So yeah, I know it's just BotW but that still says how much more appeal the open world experience with crafting and experimentation is. 2D just simply isn't going to hit that same magic.

Ehh, the only time 2D has outsold 3D is on the DS and Wii, and that was such a weird era for Nintendo because they attracted a lot of casuals that eventually left for mobile. Many of the sales trends that occurred then tend to be outliers, so I wouldn't put too much stock in them. In general, when 3D's been on the market it's done better.

Most likely yeah. I can definitely see some kind of Zelda game early even if it's just a filler title. But either way, the point I made to VoidofLight still stands. There are far too many successful IPs to think that having 3 or 4 at launch year is "blowing their load".
@StuTwo Multiplayer really isn't that suitable for nonlinear exploration heavy games like Zelda. Exploration tends to be driven by the player's personal curiosity, if you have multiple players in a game like Zelda they'll most likely want to wander off to completely different parts of the game world and that would ruin the co-op experience. I don't think they CAN really get it to work, that's why the more sandboxy 3D Mario games tend to only implement co-op in the form of a "little brother mode" like with Luma, Cappy, or Bowser Jr. We're probably never going to get full co-op like NSMB and 3D World in a sandbox style Mario game for this reason, and likewise, I don't think they're going to really get full co-op right for Zelda. The best I could see them doing is a drop-in/drop-out MMO-esque system and you could collaborate on specific dungeons and puzzles (and we all know how Nintendo is with online multiplayer, so this is probably not going to happen anytime soon), but those big open world/sandbox exploration games largely conflict with the couch co-op Nintendo is going for. They tend to work better with single player.
I WAS ABOUT TO GO TO SLEEP WHAT DO YOU MEAN A 10PM ANNOUNCEMENT!?
Well I can't say I didn't see it coming but its nice to see it finally confirmed! I unfortunately won't be able to catch it as it goes live as I'll be at school but it's great to see it finally get confirmed.
