Topic: Next Nintendo Direct?

No direct announcement today. Tomorrow is the last possible day of the month a general direct can be announced.

Apparently Walmart Canada may know something that we don't because they released a tweet earlier today saying how great Nintendo Directs are, which could be a strong hint that we'll be getting one this week. In that case, it would just be a matter of whether it airs before or after the Microsoft podcast on Thursday should they choose to air it that day

@MarkL1987 @Croctopus Would someone running a social media account for a retailer be in the know though? You’d think they’d be the last Nintendo would want to tell about this kinda stuff.

I mean... it was pretty obvious Pyoro had real leaks. If Nintendo was accidentally leaking information via titles or covers or something on not yet published YouTube videos, Nintendo could have easily taken note and fixed that issue.

@FishyS That has crossed my mind on occasion and if that's the case, I'm surprised he's lasted this long!

I feel like most of Pyoro's leaks have been pretty harmless since they are usually right before the announcement anyways — New Mario game involving flowers and elephants?? Who would even believe that. However their reputation for accuracy has gotten a bit too good and I could imagine Nintendo wanting to control information as much as possible if they are really leading up to next console announcement.

On the other hand... maybe we are about to get a tweet any minute. Or maybe there just is no direct. 🤔

@luckyseven We've been wondering if Nintendo would do a direct on Valentine's, but they did do one on Valentine's back in 2013 so it is at least possible.

This probably isn't substantial enough for a Direct, but we are due for a Smash Ultimate patch this week to add support for Sora's amiibo. If they mention that and potential balance changes alongside a Smash 64 NSO announcement, which is plausible given its recent 25th anniversary, conspicuous absence from the service, and current lack of N64 games on the horizon, it could maybe lend credence to the idea whatever's likely airing this week isn't just a Partner Showcase. Granted, we also have DLC releasing in 10 days for Splatoon 3, and they have yet to explain what it really is, in addition to there being a lack of information on TTYD (which does have some kind of new content, given the new unique Toad NPC in Glitzville), a lack of releases dated after Princess Peach: Showtime, a lack of NSO games on the horizon (which Smash 64 could address), a lack of a release date for Luigi's Mansion 2 HD, and even some evidence that Metroid Prime 4's reveal trailer is either in the works or completed. I think there's enough reason to think the Direct may be a Mini, but won't be without any Nintendo announcements. Unless they play fast and loose with the idea of a Partner Showcase, considering Part Time UFO is published by Nintendo, yet was shadowdropped in one iirc

@Nintoz @FishyS Were all the cryptic hints in the past for 1st party though? Outside of 3rd party games using 1st party IP (e.g. Sparks of Hope, Cadence of Hyrule, Three Hopes), Partner Showcases don't feature 1st party stuff.

The wording seems a bit bizzare?

Joking aside, you can read this in a number of ways:

• It's a Partner Showcase
• He's being silly and there are second-party announcements he is aware of, like the rumored Fire Emblem 4 remake (totally not copium)
• Unlike other leakers, Pyoro appears to have some kind of backend access to Nintendo uploads? Which may not necessarily be the case, but it's possible they've tightened things up for Directs, or the Direct is going to be a Mini that drops on YouTube without being livestreamed while still featuring first party stuff
• For whatever reason Pyoro just doesn't know stuff yet, which is unlikely considering how early he discussed reveals from the last Direct
