I'm new to the forum to apologies if this is old ground. There are two new switches in our house and the games we got are Minecraft and Mario kart Deluxe 8.
What I'm trying to find out is it possible to play multiplayer on either the same device or across both devices with just one copy of a game. Or does each device have to have a purchased version of the game, either cartridge or downloaded?
You can play splitscreen if you have a regular switch instead of a Lite.
Otherwise you can't play either of those game each if you only have one copy of the game, iirc.
You can definitely have 2 people playing MK8 D on the same Switch, @uniflu1976 .... Pretty sure it's up to 4, although that obviously requires extra controllers! I expect it's similar with Minecraft but I've not played that. Most multi-player games allow at least 2 on one Switch & should say in the eshop page if so or anything different
@Nephestinus OK thanks. We have regular Switches so Minecraft can be played split screen using two consoles but only needing one copy of the game then?
@uniflu1976 That's right. And as Bruce said above, MK8 Deluxe can be played wtih up to 4 players so you can just unplug those Joycons and hand them around the house and play without having to buy additional controller !
