Hi guys I have a couple of questions. On the switch you have the possibility to create different users. Let's say that with my switch the games both me and my partner. so far she has used my profile, but it annoys me that she ruins my rate in some games so the main question is:

  • if I create a user for her, will there be different progress, saves and user in the games?
  • if I create a second user for her will I have to create a nintendo profile for her?
  • if I create a new user for her, will I have to buy the pass again to play online?

thanks in advance of the answers since there are I ask you:
Is there an easier method to "split in two" the switch between me and her?

Each user with their own accounts will have their own save data and loads. If the partner wants to buy eShop they need to have their own NSO account to do that otherwise the NIN account that buys the eShop can only download the game and if shared on one device both accounts can play the game with different saved data. Only way to SPLIT is to each own their own Switch. Remember each NSO account requires separate emails otherwise it will not work. Also don't use business email or company email but free emails like yahoo, hotmail, gmail so if problem happens it's easier to reset the password or account. Then one can be Primary and Secondary so if one is using the other the other person can still connect with the other Switch. And if your still not sure just contact Nintendo they have a FAQ page to help with these questions.

@codex00 Making another switch user = another save profile. Progress cannot be transferred to that new user. That new switch user will have start new games for most everything. All other switch users created on your switch can play the games already on the switch.

For regular retail games, they will need a Nintendo Switch Online subscription to access online features.(exception: free to play games do not require NSO subscription for online play).

If you want that new Switch user to access online play and save data cloud backup, you need to link the new switch user to another Nintendo account, and that user needs an NSO subscription. Buying an NSO family plan is the cheapest way to buy subscriptions for two or more people/switch users. Eshop can let you pay to upgrade your current NSO subscription to a family plan, if that's what you want to do.

@SwitchForce You mean Nintendo Account not NSO. You don't need a NSO membership to purchase games on the eShop. 😑

Beyond the account issues let's stay on Topic first.

@WoomyNNYes basically "new user" = different saves for games I bought with user No. 1. But this also involves having to pay twice to play online.

@codex00 correct.

However, buying family plan costs less that buying two individual NSO subscriptions. In the US, here, a single one-year nso subscription costs $20. A family plan buys an nso sub for up to 8 people(8 nintendo accounts) for $35. (Buying two individual nso subscriptions would be be more expensive, $40).
