Topic: Micro SD reader fragile with frequent insert/remove?

Hi guys. I heard rumors that the micro SD reader on the switch is fragile and can break if you insert/remove a micro SD card often/frequently.

Is that true?

And what exactly happens if it is true? Is it the mechanic of the physical card reader itself that stops working, like it wont hold in the card, or will it just not read the micro SD cards anymore?

Best regards, Nicolai

I have had my fair share of official Nintendo SD cards, and they were all really sturdy and didn’t seem like it would break. But in the rare occurance that it did, I’m sure the switch would be fine.

@Apportal Its more the actual reader in the switch im worried about, not so much the SD card itself

Shouldn't be a problem if you careful. I've swapped out between my microSDs multiple times now and haven't noticed the card reader feel any different. I haven't heard of this being a problem either. Sounds to me like a few people had this issue but we're reckless inserting and removing their cards.

@KryptoniteKrunch Thanks for the reply. How many times have you inserted/removed the micro SD card so far you think?

@NicolaiDK I've taken my micro sd card out maybe 25-30 times since Switch launch 2017, and I've never thought the reader felt fragile, or heard of them being fragile. A few of those times I was upgrading to higher capacity cards. I have 400 GB currently. The other times I took the card out were to transfer Switch screenshots & video clips to my PC. For the most part, people leave the card in and don't touch them. I don't think you have any reason to worry about the micro sd card reader.

Are you planning on using muliple smaller micro sd cards? Otherwise, you can't swap micro sd cards with friends consoles. The card will be tied to your Nintendo account, and if you stick your card in friend's console, it won't work. It may say, this card is not the user's card, or something.

Larger the better....and micro sd cards in the Switch is you push gently and it pops out. That not a hard thing to do.
