Everytime the game brings me to a new level I keep going back to the previous ones thinking that there could be some moon that I haven't collected yet and everytime I find like a whole new world of things to do and places to explore! I'm really surprised that some of you already finished it, I thougt I was playing quite fast!!
I used to be a ripple user like you, then I took The Arrow in the knee
I dunno, I was never bored while collecting moons. Some can be simple or of a type, but I thought secret, hidden-in-a-box, timer challenge, Sunshine-style dungeon dimension, and the other more concrete types of moons were all just better than Korok seeds. You were never let down for searching for a secret the way you could be in Breath of the Wild's shrines or very large and time-consuming to walk across overworld. It's expected that every platforming room would have exactly 2 moons, one for completing the objective and one hidden, and maybe some purple coins.
What are everyone's favorite captures? Mine would have to be Goombas, the little potted plant thingies, and the main gimmick capture from the penultimate kingdom.
@Haru17 You probably should put that last part in spoiler tags because you just told me that there are more kingdoms after the credits
Anyway, I think most of my hate for this structure comes from how boring and ungratifying a lot of these moons are, in part to how many there are (Do we really need 1 moon for each potted plant, or so much as looking at something the right way? How about following a dog for a bit. Or two birds in one level?), and the fact that the f****** Sand Kingdom is some of the worst s*** I have ever played in my life.
You want us to run around this place and collect everything, fill it with stuff! There is so much empty nothingness in this desert it beggars belief. And it's so early in the game, it's the first proper full Kingdom you visit, and how does the game let you start? A wide open, mostly empty, box of sand.
I cant stress how damn infuriating it was to have 3 purple tortilla chips be missing, and scouring this desert for hours, not sure of where I have been, where I haven't, etc. etc. because you have no real landmarks and its all SAND. And where were these coins after doing all the challenge rooms again, go in and out of every area, running into every wall?
Over the edge of the world. And not in the "Throw Cappy and get them" way. In the, you can only get them when you hang off the edge of the world and shimmy along. And you have no way of knowing they are ever there because the area is so empty and you need to move the camera. There is nothing else within range of that spot, so you need to go all the way around the edge of this huge empty space, and scour the edges until you find them.
That and seriously, this world introduces stuff like Moon Shards pretty well, but apart from that? The pyramid is basic and dull. The ruins are semi-interesting, the major boss is the typical head and hands deal Nintendo loves so much (I do like how few frames of animation the hands have, cant tell if that was a necessary decision or design choice) but beyond that? Its a desert. Its there. Its wide open and unnecessarily large and empty.
I know Nintendo probably wanted to push the sandbox level design early in the game, but that level was one of the worst ways to do it. And a game has to hook you pretty soon, but when 5 hours of early play time is spent doing that crap? Its not a good way to put your game forward.
I legitimately hope the game has no other kingdoms like this. If it does, god help me.
The more I play the better it gets- I could've moved on from the sand kingdom hours ago but I'm having so much fun I don't even want to. Some of these moons are really well hidden- enough that I feel really good every time I find one. I just want to share all the little secrets I've found because, they're so just exciting, but obviously I won't do that.
I can tell I'm going to play this game for a long time. I thought I had pretty much covered all of the sand kingdom and was ready to move on, so I checked my map and to my surprise there are still 23 moons I haven't found. 23!!! I know one of them is on top of that super high pyramid in the air that I can't get to yet- you can see it plain as day, and one is another plant I'm waiting on, and I assume there is a third somewhere that I just haven't found yet. Still, that leaves like 20 moons that I have no idea where they are.
I'll come back for those after I beat the game. I think I'm just going to be thorough and get everything I can but I'm not going to scour to the point of frustration. Once I've pretty much covered all ground, I'll move onto the next world. Whatever I have left remaining I'll get it when I come back.

I didn't mind it or the structure so much. That level was a blast to play through when messing around the level.
Btw, finished the game's story. The ending was amazing. Overall, I'd say my main gripe with this game was its bosses. They looked great and were quick and flashy, but few of them ever actually put up a challenge. So while they were fun to play against, they lacked that satisfaction of a defeating a boss.
@BLP_Software It feels like the Sand Kingdom is the exception. At least in terms of vast open plains with little content. I call it the Breath of the Wild Kingdom
It's funny, watching the E3 trailer, I thought the Cascade Kingdom was going to be a huge world with vast plains... Glad I was proven wrong.
I think I'm almost done with two kingdoms, as in 100%'ed for sure. Need to visit that parrot a few times and then I can move on to the next one. I try to do a bit of everything at the same time, and I don't want to focus on one kingdom too much at a time. My favourite so far is the one with the rainbow wigglers, I like the Lake and Wooded Kingdoms too.
You can't 100% any of the kingdoms until you beat the game FYI. They show you moons in the compendium that are inaccessible during your initial playthrough of each kingdom. The way to tell is that the inaccessible moons are at the bottom of the list and, when you've collected all of the ones you can, the hint toad will say he's run out of hints.
Alright, beat the Sand Kingdom finally, and the one afterwards. Moving on to the one after that.
My brother came over and is playing- he absolutely adores this game and says it's the Mario 64 sequel he's always wanted. I kind of half expected him to not like it that much, cause he's a pretty critical person sometimes and more of a PC-Steam/PS4 gamer (barely played Nintendo games at all the last 10 years because he felt they just weren't making anything that interested him) but nope. Says it's absolutely incredible and every bit as good as he'd hoped.
I'm gonna slow my roll and savor this... we might not see another Mario game for years.

@Octane I've found an answer to the question from earlier I think.
You can buy an unlimited number of moons from any kingdom, but it doesn't add to that kingdom's moon count after the first one. You can't surpass 999 moons though. I'm assuming if you got any moons from worlds after you reach the limit it just wouldn't add to your total but still check it off the moon list. It's kind of a weird mechanic to have in the game if you ask me.
Ok got it, not sure why it didn't work the first time...
Just beat the main story, in most part because I flew through the last 3 stages, as there are little to no moon requirements, and...I did not expect the game to blow my mind after the credits! The new kingdom was impressive enough, but then I got to my first cube and...THEY DONE DID IT! I honestly should have expected that...but I didn't and I just es'ploded. Even in a spoiler tag I won't (completely) spoil it, you should experience it for yourself. (fyi though this caters to me so much, so your head may not es'plode too) I have less than 200 moons too...now the real fun begins. Also I got through the game without once fighting the skinny bunny, ha ha
I would have never guessed Weezing was so useful until I played a HeartGold Nuzlocke! My YouTube Channel! Video game related, of course! My Pushmo Levels
@Octane No, It doesn't check off random ones. There's "officially" a total of 836 moons. The ones you buy at the shop (other than the first one) are just extra, and can push that total to 999. But let's say you're at 800 moons and decide to buy 199. Your moon list will still have 36 unchecked spots. When you find those moons it'll check the moon off the list, but you won't actually add to your total in the odyssey. It'll stay at 999. I'm not 100% sure about that second part, but from what I read that's my understanding.
Not to nitpick, and maybe I'm just "warming up" to the game, but anybody else find Mario's controls just a little bit on the floaty side? They feel just a hair imprecise compared to 3D Land/World, in my opinion. I've played for maybe a couple hours so far - possibly just getting used to it.
Umm, no actually. The controls feel so incredibly spot on, I don't think I've ever played a game with better controls.
Idk what to say. And that's not to shoot down your experience here, but that's just my honest take. They've never been better.

Man. Some of the later levels in this game so far are brutal. I finally finished one, but I left a moon and I really don't wanna have to go back and do it again. They allow for very little/no error.
Mario's movement in this game is kind of cool. I've only ever played two 3D Mario games, and those were years ago so I hardly remember how they specifically controlled, but in Odyssey he really is all about keeping the momentum going. It's nice, but was frustrating in the last challenge I did.
