I really don‘t get the dislike of motion controls. I mean, I‘m not a fan and respect anyone who‘d rather just press a button but I‘ve seen quite a lot of people out there boycotting Odyssey because of its motion controls. I‘m rather certain Nintendo would‘ve added the possibility of controlling Cappy with a button press if it was that simple to control him. But maybe, if anyone boycotting the game due to its motion controls is vocal enough, they add the option but it prob won‘t be as intuitive as motion controls, which is likely why it was left out.
Who knows my opinion may change once I‘m actually the one playing but if it hasn‘t bothered me in Skyward Sword, I doubt I’d make a complete 180.
Personally, I don't dislike motion controls at all. It just doesn't work for the way I use the Switch. I only play in bed and using the Switch in table top mode just doesn't work for me.
@Tsurii Oh, it‘s 'just' waggling like in the Galaxy games? Then A. I really don‘t see why a button couldn‘t have replaced that when they even give you the option of deactivating motion controls and B. I don‘t get what everybody‘s so fuzzed up about even moreso. I mean, if it‘s not even pointing to the screen or similar that may become a bother in the long term, this doesn‘t even seem so big to me. Now, I‘m actually curious how waggling with the Pro Controller works. Prob would‘ve to shake the entire thing, I guess. But again, I‘ll see for myself soon enough. May be the first time I actually prefer Joy Cons over Pro Controller then as you‘d only have to shake one hand and not both but we‘ll see.
@TheLegendOfLaser You can't actually... Not sure why, but turning them off in the menu doesn't do anything, they're still there. That being said, the motion controls are very minor, way less important than the spin attack in Galaxy.
Galaxy's motion controls were perfectly implemented, but they can be annoying when they're shoe-horned into a game that doesn't really do much with them. That happened a lot during the Wii era. Either way, if Splatoon 2's motion controls were fine in handheld mode, I'm sure Mario Odyssey's will be as well.
Definitely will be using tabletop mode with this game when possible, though.
@Ralizah They were fine in Galaxy, but I also think that it was a bit easier to swing the Wiimote, than shaking the Pro Controller, that's the way I'm playing at least
But again, the motion controls in Odyssey are only a minor part of the game. I'm sure you can beat the game without it.
It sounds like the game can be seamlessly completed without having to use any of the motion control moves whatsoever, and the most useful of the the motion moves doesn't even require motion control in the first place.
It seems like an utterly bizarre reason to boycott the game. But people are obviously masters of their own wallets.
Preload just finished. Now in that awkward time before a big release where I ponder the pros and cons of staying up all night playing or being sensible and going to bed at a reasonable hour...
@Haru17
I'll add that to the con pile then. Early death... interesting.
The thing is , there's a big dinosaur with a moustache in the pro pile so tomorrow might be a write-off.
