Here is what I understood after I listened to this trailer several times:
There are 47 "normal stages", one for each of the 47 Japan's prefectures, and special stages using mechanical dog with whom we become friends (racing and shooting stages).
We can buy special items to help us during the adventure. Some of them raise our strength. Other items give us extra Life.
In normal stages, we have to free each Japan's prefecture from evil "Matsuri Towers" (or "Festival Towers"). But those towers are protected by some magic field that we can cancel by destroying the evil "Chôchin" (that are Japanese paper lanterns).
In each normal stage, we can collect some souvenirs and some extensive knowledge.
Anyway, according to what I understood by listening to those trailers, I am quite convinced this game, like Goemon games, is very playable without understanding Japanese at all. This is an action game, not an RPG, adventure game nor a Visual Novel.

Mine finally came in! Will play over the holidays.
Love the variety in gameplay. Really pulls from the goemon blueprint. Mech fights, side scrolling stages, racing and shooting stages. Trivia, collectables and a vibrant art style. I would be surprised if it comes to the west though. Due to it being so steeped in Japanese culture and mythology and trivia.
