WB seems to confirm that there will NOT be the 13 GB download, as Nintendo Life reported in the updated article. But WB talked about the "need to download the game", did not mention "part of it" (as it seems to be) or something like that. Things are getting every hour more vague and unclear
I had much fun on the U. But not interested for a second try. Not a great fan of the gameplay. The humor was the strong point for me. I think i would buy the game slightly annoyed if i hadnt yet. Everything becomes a pc nowadays. Without the free online gaming of course. But i hope its not a sign of things to come.

Apparently the boxart is wrong, there is no download required to play the game.
However that language also implies there is still a download, as some pointed out.
Additionally, it's a mystery as to why the eShop says 8.2GB file size, and Xbox One says 18GB. There has been no explanation for that given, I assume compression?

....Yeah I dunno, but if the full game is truly on the cart then I won't worry about it. Something tells me downloading the rest of the game is still gonna happen and Warner is trying to lie. lol

Keep it PG-13-ish.
@Joeynator3000 I only remain pensive because of the issues they've done with Nintendo titles in the past, how they handled LEGO Hobbit, and the one my housemates wouldn't shut up about: The PC Gaming issue.
Oh, and paid reviews...that too I guess,

Xbox One version might support 1080p and 7.1 surround sound. That can easily eat up extra storage space. Hell it might even support 4K.
Could be a lot of reasions. Better compression, langauge packs, audio. Switch may store data compressed and have hardware decompression while the others might require data to be stored uncompressed for fast install, 7.1 sound could be a thing (nothing eats space like sound and FMV!), Switch might support newer audio codecs, not sure about textures....I can't imagine they had wildly different art assets for a game originally made for WiiU launch.
The other two might also have redundant data to speed up load times, or file system level encryption rather than in the controller, or might require more language packs, etc.
@Joeynator3000 Oh this game is one of the best in the series. If you have to start somewhere, you couldn't have picked a better lego game. I won't be double dipping as I still have the original (with the horrible load times) but I can highly recommend it!

@Grumblevolcano Innocent until proven guilty. They said we don't have to download anything to play...y'know, like all the other games. I really want this game, so I hope they do right by it.
I never drive faster than I can see. Besides, it's all in the reflexes.
I loved this game on the Wii U. Load times were horrible, but the game was fun. I will be grabbing this on the PS4 this time around though. I want those trophies!
So, I'm thinking the 13gb is an optional patch. Their statement would be true- you technically can play all the way through the "full game" just from the cart. But the fixes, updates, better audio, cutscenes (especially cutscenes) will not be present. Of course this will be labeled "optional" by WB.
Then again maybe I'm wrong and the full game truly is on the cart. Maybe the cart is 32gb and the box is just flat out wrong, the eShop size is wrong, etc. But unlikely I say. It's probably a 7/8gb "game" with 13gb patch to keep cart costs down, and because the game was split on cartridge they had to be consistent and do the same on the eShop so it's the "same game and same version"

It seems this is an old topic and that the 13GB is the full game download size, with the mention of a mandatory download being a misprint. The patch will likely be far less than 1GB and not be critical. The 13GB download would be only if you were downloading the full game on the eShop.
What my concern will be is what the actual hub world load times will be. Are we looking at one minute plus times like the Wii U, but this time on the Switch? It seems other consoles will likely have this optimized for copying this data to drive for faster load times. The Wii U was slowed by it's HDD support being USB 2.0 bus speed limited which sucks for loading game data from. I suppose we will have to wait and see how optimized the remastered game is.
Either way I really want to pick it up as despite the horrible load times, it is still my favorite LEGO game to date.
Looks like load times have been reduced roughly 25% across the board, so about 15 seconds on the minute, or 6 seconds out of 25... in other instances they've been reduced 60% or 9 seconds eliminated out of 15.
Not bad. Maybe not quite as good as I'd hoped but respectable
