But what’s the point of training if you can’t use them online? There technically is a battle facility (of sorts) but the only strategy you need is “Big number”
@Screen What's the point of RPGs in general? To have fun while playing them
I've played every single main entry since Ruby and never played any of them online yet I still have a lot of fun playing them
@mariomaster96 competitive battling is and always has been a big part of the Poke-games, you not enjoying it yourself doesn't change that many fans of the franchise did miss the feature in this game as it took away their favourite part.
Depends what you consider the good parts of Arceus and the non stagnant part of the regular series, but combining the openness of Legends Arceus (actually it's even more open) with the core gameplay of the regular series (lots of trainers, gyms, etc) seems like the right direction to me
The minimum I would want that would easily work for more traditional pokemon games as well are:
Sense of exploration and discovery (might be happening with the new ones since they are open world, Arceus took a good step towards this direction, but still a lot of room for improvement)
Trainer controls being at least as freeform as on Arceus and the trainer interacting with the world and pokemon (dodge, aiming pokeballs, etc)
Pokeball aiming generally unlocked a lot of new potential and ways to have fun. I don't think I can go back to pressing A to interact with a tree/rock to transition to an arena battle with a pokemon, compared to Arceus where I can throw my pokeball at it. All these little interactions through aiming are just much more engaging.
Pokeball types being more meaningful like they were in Arceus (though not sure how much they can do if they remove the aiming)
On the spot battles, no transitioning to "arenas" (I imagine they are not going back on this one but haven't looked into it)
Not having to beat the elite 4 or whatever for the 20th time, but focus on a different story instead, would also be very welcome.
