After playing quite a bit of Arceus and begging for a sequel to Endless Ocean 2 I think I finally got it. I wonder if anyone else spotted these similarities.
You explore various open regions with different environments collecting various species. Certain quests let you interact or sightsee a legendary Pokemon just like in EO2. You have a home base which you improve on little by little. Some Pokemon attack you in the wild and need to be 'calmed' like in EO2 plus there are collectible quests, the map works very similarly and the distribution of creatures and where they appear works kind of the same way. Granted, in EO2 creatures don't really despawn but it's a much more ancient game so I'd imagine if they made a new one they would add such a feature.
Even the minimalistic story in both games focuses on exploring the cultures of the region and is more of a side track from the main exploration.
People are comparing Monster Hunter to Arceus but I think this comparison is much more adequate.
This might just be me being crazy or it's just me expressing how badly I want Endless Ocean 3 for yet another year.
