Hey y'all,

I have been playing BOTW on my boyfriend's Switch, but now he left (we have a distant relationship) and I would like to continue my game in which I put well above 30 hours. I considered buying the game and starting again, but I was wondering if there is a way to buy BOTW for my Switch and then transfer my game from my boyfriend's cartridge to mine? Any other possible workaround?

I hope some of you technical wizards can help me with this ❤️

xoxo

Did you have your own profile on his switch or were ypu playing on his?

You can use the cloud save feature and transfer saves between consoles (as long as you subscribe to NSO), but it would get more difficult if you are sharing a profile

@Fluffy_Duffy
Short answer = NO
The save data of Nintendo Switch games is NOT saved into the cartridges, unlike NDS and 3DS cartridge.
It saved into internal storage, just like Wii U.

@ChaosBadger777 I was playing with a separate profile/Animal Crossing avatar - - does this mean I can import my save from my boyfriend's console to mine? 🤩 How how how?

When you made your account did you verify it with an email?
If so, you can subscribe to NSO (they have a free 7 day trial if you don't want to pay) and get your BF to go to your profile on his switch and he can then save the game to the cloud. You then log in on your new switch and pull that game save from the cloud and play from where you left off.

I hope that makes sense, I'm in work so trying to reply quickly sorry.

@Fluffy_Duffy If you need to do it from a distance then what @ChaosBadger777 suggests is the way to go. You'll need to make sure your profile is linked to a Nintendo Account if you haven't already and then you'll need to use a Nintendo Switch Online subscription to upload your save data to the cloud from your profile on his Switch and then use the same profile on your Switch to download your data from the cloud.

If you're able to meet up at all then it's even easier as there's an option in the system settings to transfer users between consoles locally which wouldn't require an NSO subscription or anything.

You are my heroes guys!

My BF has a Nintendo account to buy and download games. I don't have one. We have used different Avatars in his console to play.

So basically, I need my BF to sign up for NSO, upload all the saves from my Avatar to the cloud and then I can log in with my BF's Nintendo account in my Switch and download the saves to my console, is that it?

I guess I still need to buy the game though, since my BF's BOTW comes in a cartridge. If I log into my console using my BF's account to play BOTW, can he still play with his console as usual?

@Fluffy_Duffy unfortunately two people can't play on the same account at the same time. You will probably be best starting again on your own profile - on the plus side BotW holds up against multiple playthroughs and the starting area isn't too much of a chore.

@ChaosBadger777 Oh no, that sucks!!! If I am doing a second playthrough I am definitely ignoring the photo memories... I wish I could keep my saved game though. I had built up Link to become quite an amazing fighter.

I felt the same when I started on Switch after playing on the Wii-U.
I actually enjoy the second playthrough more as I knew the mechanics and even the early areas felt fresh as I didn't have to learn mechanics and I could focus on exploration - I got the warm doublet from the great plateau for example which made the snow areas easier. Completely missed it on my gorst playthrough
