Topic: Importing "I am Setsuna" Questions.

Thinking about buying a Japanese copy of "I am Setsuna". Does it play EXACTLY like the North American version? No differences? I know it has English in the menus! The biggest question is why are they overcharging for it on eBay ? The lowest price I could find was $79.42 Canadian. The eShop release is $39.99 Canadian. It's probably a hot item, so they are going to try to take advantage of the fact that there are only Japanese copies of this game. Should I wait and the price will go down? Where can I find a copy cheap? If this is the way all the Nintendo Switch imports are gonna' be...then digital for me!

The Japanese and English language versions of I Am Setsuna are technically identical. Both the English-language and Japanese eShops indicate that the game supports Japanese, English and French (as all three languages are included regardless of how or where the game is purchased from).

If it's too expensive, it's probably due to high demand now that English-speaking fans are aware of the fact that the English-language option is available on the Japanese retail cartridge. It's currently out of stock on Play-Asia as well, and you may find that scalpers are hoarding Japanese copies for sale on eBay. I'm pretty confident that Square Enix will replenish their stock sooner or later. Just be patient if you do not want to pay an exorbitant amount for the game.

Most copies at that price include international shipping. So that is being factored in too. Mostly the price hike is due to supply and demand though. The game was going to be a low seller in Japan so not as many copies were released. Looking at prices though - the PS4 copy is not much cheaper so factor in the conversion rate to Japanese Yen and that might account for some of the price difference also.

May be an old thread but figured better to use an existing one related to it rather than start a new one.

I imported I Am Setsuna but originally planned to keep it sealed as a back up and buy it digitally when it went on sale due to the DLC. However, it only just occurred to me that the DLC is free and the console can access the eShops of per countrie

Can anyone else who imported confirm whether they were able to download the free DLC and di you have to create a new "foreign" User to obtain it?

I downloaded an update for the game despite being a physical Asian region copy (I wanted English boxart). I don't have an Asian eShop account, though I do have a Japanese one.

But ya, I haven't checked to see if it downloaded the DLC, but afaIk the only update to the game has been to add that DLC. Plus the DLC is nothing more than an update anyways, and my copy clearly downloaded an update despite not having an account for the game's region.

So ya, I'd say it does download it.

And for the record, you should make a 2nd Nintendo Account for the Japanese region (it asks you to set region when you make it). Then make 2nd user account and tie it to the JP Nintendo Account. Even if you don't need it for the DLC it's still good to have. I downloaded the DQ Heroes demo using it.

I also imported a physical copy, but I can confirm that it has NOT downloaded the DLC (with the Switch-exclusive team battles and such). I do not have a Japanese eShop account, so that's most likely the issue.
