Absolum, best beat'em up since Street of Rage 4, but run-based. Taboo Trial, great 3D action, but run-based. Balatro, great rng card game, but run-based. Shogun Showdown, great puzzle game, but run-based. Against the Storm, best city builder I've played in decades, but run-based.
Feels like the roguelite run-based genre might the most crowded these days, more common than a cozy farm sim. Still, it's better than a game simply...ending on death, I suppose. The early days of consoles and arcade cabinets; run out of lives and you start from scratch. At least with the roguelites you get a little progression to make subsequent attempts easier.
You're not alone mate! I've had a blast with Absolum, but I tired of it quickly once I'd beaten the final 'true' boss.... no desire to replay as other characters etc
I heard an interesting view on a podcast recently, essentially highlighting that the cost of creating (and in some cases also self-publishing) a game in today's industry is so ginormous that Indie devs lean towards a rogue-structure to allow re-use of assets and gameplay loops = less 'actual game' to create.
I'd love to see more of the genre in the AAA space though. Returnal is probably in my top 5 games of all time, and think it is the apex of all rogue games IMO! Housemarque's next game - Saros(?) - drops in Q1 next year and I'm seriously considering re-purchasing a PS5 just to play it
Nintendo's experimentation with roguelites as DLC (Side Order, Emerald Rush, probably Mega Dimension) makes me wonder if they're testing the waters for a full rogue-like game.
"well it appears I am upside down. what ever will I do?"
Also I don’t see anything wrong with game fatigue.
Heck there are some times where I get tired of a game I’m playing so I decide to take a break and play another game. It’s not because I suddenly hate it, i just need a little break every now and then.
It happens. I hit open world fatigue, with all the choices and places to go. Switch it up. If you're into the side strollers play the new ninja gaiden or shinobi. Prince of persia the lost crown is a great metroidvania. If not, switch it up entirely. Play some nier automata, rdr1.

I think this is actually where a lot of negativity about particular genres/styles comes from: people just not realizing that they can and should play something else. In particular, sandbox games, particularly of the Ubi-clone persuasion? Get hatred from people who really need to just take a break; and understand that just because several such games come out per year, doesn't mean they are required to play them all. And. . . well, there's a reason that even though I'm a huge JRPG fan, I take breaks between giant JRPGs ( hence why it took years for me to catch up on Trails ).
