Last two gens the amount of new Pokémon was kinda small but then again, they also had the Mega Evolutions and Alolan forms. I know quality over quantity but I wish they‘d reach at least one hundred new Pokemon again. It‘s hard to imagine that by Gen 10, they‘ve got over a thousand Pokémon.

I just want a Battle Frontier thing again, or the PWT or whatever it was called...with new battle remixes from the older games. We keep getting those weak "Battle Whatevers" that are just boring battles where the AI keeps cheating you easily even when you EV trained Pokemon and all that. Gimme back the Arcade! >.<

Keep it PG-13-ish.
I'd agree with the previous posts and say around 70 new ones.
At this point, I'd even be happy if we had no new pokemon - or maybe just starters and legendaries. I'd much rather they made creative use of the existing pokemon... Maybe something like Alola forms again?
I think they'll do a gen 6 type situation and have around 50 new Pokemon, a national Pokedex of 150-200 and every Pokemon obtainable in some way though some can only be obtained via importing from the Gen 7 games.
Probably keep it on the low side as they did with Gen 6 and 7. I don't mind either way. Fingers crossed that one of those or one evolution family is Poison/Electric.
I think around 70 would be reasonable too. I'd like to see them introduce more regional variants of existing Pokémon again like they did with Alolan forms, but I'm not sure if they'd want to use that idea a second time.
Thank you Nintendo for giving us Donkey Kong Jr Math on Switch Online
@8-Bit_Superman With the ever increasing number of Pokemon, that's less likely with each generation. To be fair, I think that the current 400+ Pokedexes are way too big for the regions. Every route has a dozen or so new Pokemon, and while that sounds great on paper, it's a bit overwhelming. Some Pokemon are so rare, they may as well not exist in the game. I think 200-300 is a fine number. They could always make a new game that focuses on the rest of the bunch. Imagine that, three different games for the eight generation, all with varying Pokemon. I mean, it's never going to happen, but that would be perfect.
I'd love for them to make one new game that has every pokemon available for capture, but that's never going to happen.
As for how many new Pokemon I'd like to see in Gen 8, 100 would be a good amount. But quality is more important than quantity. 50 brilliant new pokemon would be better than 150 mediocre designs.
I once created a thread about the current amount of Pokémon and how far they can take it. It must have been on PokéCommunity since I can't find it through my NL profile info which means it was at least 8 years ago. Maybe it was around the time that we were waiting for Black & White. Anyway, back then I was wondering if the amount of Pokémon would have an effect on the amount of people who would still want to play Pokémon. I thought of 1000 different Pokémon as some kind of magical number which would be so far away. Now it's very close.
I don't mind that they're adding more and more Pokémon but I used to know when each Pokémon would evolve, what moves they could learn, etc. but now there are some Pokémon I can barely name. There are bunch of Ultra Beasts I know nothing of because I stopped playing after the story portion of Sun and Moon ended. I can still list first generation in numerical order from memory. I doubt there are many who can list every single one of them.
I'm gonna agree with the majority and say that 50-70 high quality designs like gen 6 would be much better than 100+ of all qualities like gen V.
Same here. 50-70 quality designs are the most ideal in my book. There are designs that I like out of Gen V, but they're far outweighed by designs that I either find meh or don't like at all.
I still pride myself that I can name all of the current existing Pokemon, but the first three generations come the easiest. I couldn't easily name them all in numerical order past the first few in Gen I and II though.
Currently playing: Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, Famicom Detective Club: The Missing Heir (Switch)

Yeah, but having just starters and legendaries as new Pokemon just make a few new Pokemon for Gen VIII.

Looking for friends to play Mario Tennis: Aces, and Diablo III: Eternal Collection on Nintendo Switch with.
Like 200 and they only admit 50 old ones. That way they could actually do something to evolve the gameplay instead of spending their budget on a bunch of remade 3D models. That would hurt their marketing though, so it's a non-starter.
