@NEStalgia Just FYI, if you really don't have time to make a base and night is coming, just dig down 3 blocks, and place one block above your head so that you're standing in a space that's 2 blocks tall and 1 block wide. It's impossible for monsters to spawn in such a small space, even without light.
Assuming you didn't know this already, you can burn logs in a furnace to make charcoal, which works the same as regular coal.
A first day should generally look like this for newbies: Punch wood, make tools, find food if possible, find coal or make charcoal, and dig out a hole in a hill or underground or something to spend the night in. Making a bed is very helpful too so that you don't have to stand there all night (spiderwebs can also be turned into wool BTW, which you find by killing spiders), but if you can't make one in time, you could just spend the night mining for things like iron and coal, assuming you have torches with you.
So i can't find a 3rd wool. I have 2 base caves each with a crafting table, furnace, chest, torches. I'm mining deep at night on peaceful mode...... finding nothing but stone and cobblestone. Making stone tools, carving more.......is both addicting and boring all at once... yet oddly addicting
If they didn't respawn you'd risk leaving the player without any animals.
Anyway, just like other npcs, animals spawn in places with the correct conditions. If a place has the correct conditions for sheep, then more sheep may spawn there.
@Meowpheel I was told they didn't respawn, so you needed to set up a farm pretty quickly in order to not kill everything off. That's kind of disappointing that it's not true, but I guess it makes sense for a casual game like this.
A dirt block next to a grass block will eventually become a grass block if it receives enough light.
So, the easiest way would be just... Having your herd outdoors and letting the grass propagate under the sun.
Of course, there has to be grass there to begin with, since you can't really get grass blocks to use as "seeds" (without enchanting your weapons, but that's something we won't cover in this introductory course ).
this game is just crazy intricate. It's really cool but overwhelming. Still haven't figured out how to actually play the game (getting enough to fight... need clothing, thus need farming thus need all this stuff.... then.... enchanting?
More confused than ever about how this is a kids game
@DarthNocturnal lol. Right now I'm trying to figure out "beyond wood and stone" that's about all I've figured out so far.... oh and doors and torches...
1unch trees
2:make a crafting table
3:craft a picaxe and a shovel
4: make a bunker of 6 or 9 blocks down
5ut the crafting table, and the oven
6 make a lot of space, cuz that is your house now
