I know it's kind of late for that but I feel like they're kind of botching their exposure towards the very end here.

The game's page on psn still hasn't updated with the actual release date, on the eshop it's nowhere to be seen (if it even has a page yet, I could've checked before posting ig), same on Playstation, they hadn't announced how much it'll cost until the other day, no pre-orders - which I can sort of understand given they announced the proper date only two weeks in advance - and I think they're not making enough of a point to really showcase how darn much the game transformed since the last trailer. I actually didn't think much of that aspect until I sat down and actually compared the footage, silksong looks HELLA good even compared to the already gorgeous, "odler" visuals from years ago.

I'm sure it'll get good word of mouth, I hope it does well because they're clearly passionate about their craft here, but it feels odd how lowkey the release of silksong feels, despite all the indies acting liek they're avoiding gta 6 here.

The boss of the greymoor legitimately sucks the life out of me rn... Maybe I'm too dumb to understand how the game wants me to fight it but it feels like every approach gets punished without a real tell for the attacks in question.

Huh. I wasn’t planning on buying this one, but it’s pretty cheap on the Mexican eShop (~US$10) and it comes with a free S2 upgrade so why not, I like Metroid.

Let’s see what’s the buzz about.

@Eel Turns out it's even cheaper from the South African eshop.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

I just started earnestly playing this morning. I’ve been using a notepad to take notes. I’m not that far - I just beat the Bell Beast boss fight and now traversing my way through a few tight platforming labyrinths. It’s been an awesome game so far.

@Eel £7.75 roughly, which is more than £1.25 cheaper than Mexico was for me. I got too carried away with hype to bother shopping around further. Now I'll be forever £1.25 poorer than I otherwise would have been.

Update: I finally beat the boss Skarrgard. He was a pain in the butt, but I managed to beat him by staying in the offense. He was unique - he didn’t have a name screen or anything, making you believe he wasn’t a common enemy. I’ve finally reached the Hunter’s Marsh. I can tell it’s going to be quite the tricky section with its platforming.

Why does it feel like nobody on this site is talking about silksong? All the comments on articles about it are usually things like "oh hollow knight isn't that good" or "oh the game is good but nothing amazing" (even this thread has about as many replies as star wars outlaws)... for me, silksong is the best game that's come out in the past 10 years, it's so beautifully crafted, and it's insane how much quality content is in here.

Maybe im just focusing on the negative comments too much.

Silksong is GOTY 2025 and no other game stands a chance (E33 will win anyway)

@mossenthusiast We on this site like being contrarians. It's like half the fun of being here.

But in all seriousness, i don't really know why. Best to not take what you see people post on this site as any sort of general consensus on anything.

I think it's half because of the upcoming direct and mario anniversary taking people's attention and half because people are playing the game and don't want spoilers. Nintendo Life doesn't even have a review out yet; most reviewers haven't finished.

Plus the game quickly announced the upcoming major patch so a lot of people are waiting on it.

Plus, at least in the US, the school year just started so it's not exactly prime gaming season and only one weekend has happened since release.

I mean, if you want people to talk about the game, you could get the ball rolling by participating in the thread regularly.

I played a little bit yesterday, beat a few bosses and stopped shortly after reaching the place with the ants. The game is fun. Never played the original one, but so far this reminds me of Metroid Dread.

I was about 12 hours in and starting to feel a bit 'Hmm' with the game, like I hadn't had a decent power-up in a while and things were starting to feel a bit samey. So I decided to grind to get my rosaries up and do a bit of shopping. I got myself to about 350 rosaries and then stumbled upon the Chapel of the Reaper.. I hadn't found a bench in a while, so figured the name was a deliberate bluff and a bench would be right inside. Whoops. Once inside I couldn't get out, died, and of course the game decided to put my cocoon inside the death trap. So then I was stuck having to keep trying to clear the Chapel to get all my grinded rosaries back.

I did manage it, and it didn't take me that many tries, as it turned out, but it was one of those stressful occasions that the Hollow Knight devs love to put us through.

I then went and spent my rosaries and found the upgrades to be pretty much worthless and totally not worth the effort of grinding and recovering the rosaries. That's my biggest issue with the game at this stage - aside from the compass, the dash and the gliding cape, I barely get any benefit from the other trinkets.

Disillusioned, I decided to have a crack at the platforming that requires the diagonal dive attack, which I was yet to attempt. Got a decent way into that, then got totally ****ed by a trap that swung down from the ceiling and smashed me. That felt really unfair, because nowhere else in the now 13 hours of the game had I encountered that kind of threat.

I'd rebuilt my rosary stash to about 350 again by then, so was compelled to redo all that tricky platforming to recover my cocoon. And believe me, as a rookie diagonal diver, redoing that with 350 rosaries on the line is stressful as **** and that was sweaty joycon time.

I think I recovered it once, immediately died, and then remembered the trick about quitting to the main menu when in a sticky situation, so the second time I just got to the cocoon and then immediately quit to menu to recompose myself.

This game can really stress me out.

So how come they only made the game for people who liked the challenging DLC for the original?

@gcunit I'm 18 hours in and I've died multiple times before recovering my cocoon and rosaries. At this point I just don't stress about it. Whenever I get above 80 I just buy a rosary string, and I pretty much always have enough for the basics - benches and maps and so on.

@chardir Thanks. So how do the rosary strings work? I've not bought one yet. I just figured I'd be paying 80 to put however many over 80 I had at the time on a string. E.g., If I had 250 rosaries, I'd pay 80 for a string with 170 on it, which didn't seem like a good deal to me. But happy to be corrected if I've guessed wrong.

@gcunit you pay 80 and receive a rosary string worth 60. So it's a fee of 20 to protect 60 beads. At first I thought it was a bad deal, but now I'm just happy paying my insurance 😄
