@sisodinr The question now is... when is it releasing? This looked super polished, but a lot of TC's trailers do. I could see it maybe releasing early next year?

The irony is incredible. In every Nintendo/Indie direct/showcase, there's always the HOLLOW KNIGHT people. Meanwhile, the game gets its first actual follow up promotion in an Xbox Showcase. I will be surprised if any Nintendo-related showcases lead the way on this game's release.
Yeah, this shocked me too. It just shows that the Switch isn't in the front and center anymore, regarding this game. It might not even be a timed-exclusive anymore. Of course this site never had the balls to mention that (I never saw a article on it).
I am planning on getting Silksong, and I'm debating whether I should play the original Hollow Knight before its release. Is Silksong a direct sequel? Should I catch up on the lore? Or should I just hold out until September 4th and save the money?

Its technically a prequel. The main character of Silksong is Hornet, and she appears in Hollow Knight throughout the game, but is the main character of the prequel about to release.
You can play in either order. Its not a super narrative driven game. But those who have played Hollow Knight will get a little bit more having already become familiar with the character.
Psalms 22:16 (1,000 yrs before Christ)
They pierced My hands and feet
Isaiah 53:5 (700 yrs before Christ)
He was pierced for our transgressions
Zachariah 12:10 (500 yrs before Christ)
They will look on Me whom they pierced
Always baffles me why people would commit to a game not yet released, but have held off on a very similar game that's a stone-cold goat for no apparent reason. It's frickin' Hollow Knight, and it's not even expensive when it's not on sale. Unless you just weren't into gaming until... yesterday, how can you be interested in Silksong and not have tried HK yet?
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
I'd also be very confident in recommending HK - it's a known quantity, the character moves and fights in a very standard way and we know that the world is very well constructed and connected and it opens up in a satisfying way as you collect powerups (the essential thing about a Metroidvania and one that's nigh impossible to tell that the developers have got right until you're deep into the game).
I still have (and will have until I've played it) reservations about Silksong. Partly that's because of the way that Hornet seems to move and fight. I'm not generally as much of a fan of lightweight platforming characters that dart and dash around the screen very quickly - they're much more technical moment to moment and tend to be far fiddlier in ways that "normal" players find incredibly difficult. Fiddly twitchy movement and an inability to take many hits also often goes together with a few ultra frustrating boss battles that completely gatekeep progression (already a big issue with HK).
Still I've got my fingers well and truly crossed that they stick the landing. I felt the original really pushed the genre onwards (and no-one else has built on it's foundations since IMO)
