Im having a very annoying and recent problem, when using a HDMI cable to display the games on my TV at the beginning it would work normally 5 mins later the image would cut out and show a black screen only to reappear and it repeats this process over and over again.

i have tried multiple HDMI cables and the same result, the ac adapter works fine and I've tried other USB C cables and it has worked fine, i recently did take the console screen on holiday with me and it worked fine then but as soon as i returned home and placed it into the dock this started to happen.

any ideas? thanks would love to start playing this again!

Hmm, that's hard to say. It COULD be a legit problem with the Switch, or with the USB-C connector on the Switch or dock.

Does that TV have any special way to tell if it lost HDMI connection or not (a screen that pops up or anything?) I.E. if you unplug the HDMI while it's working is the result identical as when it cuts out or does it behave differently?

I know I originally had issues with cutouts, and I had to remove my breakout box (that worked fine on WiiU) and my thin gauge HDMI extension cable and run a shorter length as I apparently had too long a run for too thin a cable and it would lose signal/resync periodically. I'm not sure if you have any thing like an HDMI switch or an AV Receiver in the path, but can you try connecting the Nintendo-included HDMI cable directly into the TV (and possible a different port if there are more than one) to see if it still behaves that way?

Also make sure the fan on the Switch is pushing air out, it could be overheating if something happened to the fan.

@NEStalgia I've tried with the included switch HDMI cable into the tv and different ports but the same thing happens.

when i unplug the HDMI cable the screen goes blue with no signal sign on it as tv's normally do so it behaves differently to the black screen it goes to

@halebilly1235 Hmm, so that implies that it might not be HDMI losing signal and that it could be Switch-related. Did you verify the fan is pushing out the hot air out the vent? And that there's no debris visible on the contacts of the USB-C connector in the dock or the console (hard to see, you'll need a flashlight.) Or anything blocking the exhaust vent?

Short of that it might be time for a call to Nintendo support to troubleshoot further. If it doesn't happen in handheld mode, it COULD be a fan/overheating issue. It could also just be an issue with the dock and not the Switch itself.

I've emailed the official Nintendo support team and asked them for their advice, the fan is working fine, as is the USB-C as it is charging the switch, there does seem to be something at the back of the HDMI port which i think may be the problem but its at the very back and the HDMI port doesn't go all the way in may have to send it in for repairs

thanks for your help though any further advice will be much appreciated any further developments i will try to let you know
much thanks!

Can you test the Switch on another High-Def TV to rule out a problem with the port on your TV?

Might be a problem with your tv. My brothers tv had a similar issue and it was the tv input.

Could be the Dock. Its literally a piece of junk. Mine completely stopped working and my switch sometimes will charge.

I've had to send mine into Nintendo.
The Switch was clearly rushed a year too early.
