Just after the midway point of World 3 (Spooky Trails) I began having a variety of visual glitches as shown in the video. This was recorded in World 2 (Sherbet Desert), but it is occurs all over now. As you can see it appears to be other assets/models specific to the zone loading in randomly. I have also had glitches on the world selection map (Peach's Castle), specifically large, dark blocks, which I assume are intended for some type of occulsion, but they are not despawning when you walk into the area. If it matters, my version of the game is completely digital, installed on a MicroSD card, and almost always played in docked mode. The other games on the card, including Starlink, seem to work fine with no noticeable artifacts. Likewise cartridges seem fine, having tested Breath of the Wild, too. Any ideas?

What happens if you reinstall it (internal memory or on your micro SD card?

I am attempting a reinstall on the MicroSD card now. Will update when I get a chance. If that fails, I will likely attempt an install directly to the system memory.

A new install seems to have corrected the problem. If I had realized earlier that I could check for corruption, I would have done that first. Is this sort of problem common with Switch games?

never heard of it before - but there are sometimes some issues with some SD cards

@pseudothesis I’ve played through the entire story of this game and have not had any problems. Might be a defected cartridge or SD card.

I won't rule out the possibility that it is an issue with the SD card, but the other dozen odd games I have installed on there seem to function flawlessly. Regardless, a reinstall fixed the problem. Here's hoping it was just a one-off.

Same exact thing started happening to me just last night. In the Spooky Trails level there is an area where series of 3 stones raise up to connect between raised rocks to form a maze (hard to explain)... I am fairly sure that is where the glitches started. I was like, wow, this is a bad section... then it continued through the end of the level... and persisted everywhere else. I just did a hard restart of the game on the home screen and it looks fine now.

Just a heads up to anyone still reading this: the problem with the game returned, and I began having controller issues, as well. On December 4, I submitted a repair order under warranty and shipped my Switch and a couple of Joy Cons that evening via UPS. I live near Chicago, and the designated repair facility is near Los Angeles. My shipment reached the LA hub on December 7, but was not delivered until the morning of December 10. My order was being serviced on December 12 & 13; it was completed on December 14 and shipped back that same evening. The order was delivered to my home the afternoon of December 19, for a total time out of my possession at almost exactly fifteen days.

Now, as to the verdict: one Joy Con was determined to be functioning properly and was returned, one Joy Con was defective and was replaced with a new one, and the "tablet" itself was completely replaced with a brand new one. There was no indication as to what was deemed wrong with the original tablet, so I can only speculate as to why it was replaced. I will say all of the data on the old Switch was transferred to the new one. My SD card, which obviously did not make the trip, had to be reformatted for the new Switch, but otherwise has continued to perform admirably.

While I can not say for certain what caused the problem I was having in game, it seems most likely that it was a defect with my console and not the fault of the micro-SD card. In fact, I have since installed all of my digital games directly to the card, leaving the console space to be used solely for save data.

I hope this has been helpful. And most importantly, I can not praise Nintendo enough for their excellent customer service. The entire interaction, whether by phone, by email, the shipping, or the repair, was absolutely phenomenal.

I have that exact glitch rn. Starts after you get into spooky trails, it's EVERYWHERE, and assets randomly disappear or appear. I also use sd card but I use handheld most of the time and my switch is still fully functioning.
