A few weeks ago, I bought a Nintendo Switch bundle that came with Mario Wonder pre-installed.
Before giving it to my son as a gift, I tested it to make sure everything was working perfectly—I even played the game for a bit.
However, before putting it back in the box, I thought it would be a good idea to restore the console to its factory settings to remove any traces of the setup I had done.
When my son turned it on and set up the console, Mario Wonder was gone. I think I accidentally deleted it.
No, I’ve never had a Nintendo account before. I bought the console in a physical store, and the game came pre-installed.
However, I did create an account the day I tested the console—it was required to proceed. I still have that account. The game was pre-installed on the console’s memory; I didn’t download it from the eShop.
@gifto if you sign into the eshop with the account you made you can still maybe find the game. Click your profile on the eshop and then re-download it should be there. Although you didn't download it from the eshop you will be able re-download it from there. And if not I would try to contact the support website.

For clarity, the profile you make on the switch is the switch user profile. Your nintendo account is created on nintendo's website https://accounts.nintendo.com/login.
Your switch user profile needs to be linked to a nintendo account in order to access eshop on the switch.
Digital games that come already installed are kind of a new thing for the Switch. Before this year, as far as I know, if a game was bundled with a console, you got a redeem code, and you'd plug it into eshop to redeem the game then download it. Game ownership would be tied to the nintendo account that redeemed it on eshop. I'm not sure how exactly how, or where, game ownership is granted when the game was already installed.
Know that nintendo's support site is a good resource. They have directions and troubleshooting for most things, and the search bar can tell you what error codes mean, should you ever get an error code.
I mean I dunno "How else do you think you would have it pre-installed?" can give the vibes of you being snarky- even if you didn't intend it to come across that way.
And telling them they're not needed around here because of pointing that out is also pretty rude.
If you come to accuse people of doing stuff when obviously they arent then I suggest maybe going somewhere else. We don't need characters like you around here.
It wouldn’t be fair to assume your intention, but these things do not come across as calm when I read them.
Edit: Looks like @VoidofLight beat me to it. Sorry, didn’t mean for you to get called out twice.
It's pre-installed meaning it's a digital purchases, I mean come on how else would it have been pre installed if they didn't have a cartridge. If someone took something I said the wrong way that's on them. Obviously if they are accusing someone who they never met as doing something then yeah they have no business here disrupting the forum. Who wants that kind of thing in a forum?

@Tasuki I apologize if I offended you, and I didn't mean to dismiss what you said. Idk you and you don't know me we're online no one knows anyone really. You probably didn't mean or intend to have it taken the wrong way, and sorry for calling you out.
Also I don't think anyone wants arguments in a forum so let's keep things on topic. 🫱

Thank you for the suggestion! I signed into the eShop with the account I created, but unfortunately, the game doesn’t appear in the re-download section.

I finally contacted Nintendo Customer Support, and they got back to me. I now have the game again! I’m sharing their response here in case it helps someone else:
Access the Nintendo eShop and select the Nintendo account you want to register the software with.
Click on the user icon in the top-right corner.
On the screen showing your account balance, scroll all the way down using the right Joy-Con.
In the "Pre-installed Software" section, you can register the software even if it has been deleted from the system. Once you confirm the registration, the system will begin downloading the game.
