So i have a digital US version of Splatoon 2. I learned that a simple JP nintendo account won't actually let me join the JP splatfests. And surely there is a way to redownload it on my JP account on my switch?
Im honestly confused as to why i can't re download without paying (jp eshop says i haven't bought it yet) since i thought games were tide to the System* not the account?
While most games will have a single release that supports multiple languages, there are some games that are issued separate versions for different territories, usually as Western and Eastern releases, where the Western release will contain English as well as other European languages (and/or Russian) whereas the Eastern version will contain Japanese and/or English and/or Chinese (Simplified and Traditional).
A few examples of where games have had separate releases including Mario + Rabbids, Splatoon 2, Hyrule Warriors and Fire Emblem Warriors. Such games, fortunately, are in the minority.
The easiest way to identify whether a game has been issued a separate Eastern release is to check the eShop page and see whether the game includes Japanese. If not, they will have a version different to the Western release.
Funny, I can think of several reasons why Ninty would want to split up the releases...
1. Lag between continents is generally going to be very bad.
2. Time zones are usually going to make things hella inconvenient for one party or the other. Anyone who remembers the original Splatoon 2 Global Testfire can surely remember how many complaints there were about inconvenient timing.
3. A lot of Splatfests have regional themes that don't really translate well between cultures, or are tied to local commercial concerns.
