Topic: Gamecube Virtual Console?

@tux_peng I run my Gamecube games on my Wii with a gamecube controller. I don't have a Wii-U yet. Does that homebrew thing allow the Wii-U to function with the gamecube controller (via the adapter?) or is that still not possible?

I don't have that many gamecube games: Batallion Wars (which I'm yet to play through), Wave Race, 1080 and Luigi's mansion and that's about it.

Windwaker and Twilight Princess I've got in the HD editions for the Wii-U (but I don't yet have a Wii U...currently the console I want most).

Also, got at least one import Wii game that I can't play until I import a Wii: Indianapolis 500 Legends (although I do have the sequel that I can't play on my PAL 360). Also I hear good things about the most recent Trauma Team but it didn't get a PAL release.

@SuperPaperLuigi The GC adapter should work with nintendont, along with PS3, PS4, & any HID jgamepad, the Pro Controller, & Classic controllers

I just hope that when they realized all of the Wii vc had to be done from scratch a second time for the wiiu they put a plan in place for all of it to carry over to the nx day one. I definitely don't want to start all over again and the turbo games near the end of the wiiu's lifecycle give me hope that they did.

@tux_peng Thanks for the info. I've read you can't use the adapter in Wii mode on the Wii-U, which kind of sucks. It'd be nice to be able to consolidate the platforms but it's a lot more easily said than done I guess.

@YellowFighter well with the wiiu everything had to be remade from scratch. As I posted above I hope they put a plan in place for the vc eshop to get ported over day one.

The VC has so much potential but once again Nintendo has ruined it. The fact that the Wii U library doesn't even have as many games as the Wii mean that its a down grade. Like come on Nintendo at least put all the games from your old e-shop on there, and don't get me started on games that are out in Japan and not the west

@haigh1011 we also have games the Japanese don't. I think the issue is they had to start from scratch with the wiiu. I hope they planned ahead and can just port it all over.

You can't use the adapter in Wii mode, until you boot up a GameCube game. Then it recognizes it because Nintendont is programmed to recognize it. It's the only way to use original GC controllers for GC on Wii as far as I know.

@JaxonH Thanks. I'm really just interested in it for my Wii fighting games: Guilty Gear, Tatsunoko V.s Capcom etc.

It's not too bad since I do still have a Wii for that stuff but it would be cool to be able to play it on the Wii U.

Even though I didn't have a GC growing up, I feel that the switch will allow me to play such heard of gems such as Super Mario Sunshine and Super Smash Bros Melee.

You just made my morning! That's fantastic news!

And if the rumours of the Switch having analog triggers are true, we'll be able to play those titles without compromises.

I have a chronic lack of time, for everything.

Now playing: Okami HD, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

As long as Chibi Robo is one of the first games to be re-released I'll be happy. I'm one of those people that didn't get many opportunities to play GameCube games, so Chibi Robo and Star Fox Adventures would be awesome. And i don't want to pay the premium prices other websites charge the games for.

I am not going to get to excited for the VC just yet. The Wii and Wii U VC has taught me that there is too much red tape for alot of my favorite games to come to VC.

Is this gonna be another broken promise? Find out in March!!!

Or a promise not made at all?

With regards to the VC, my favourite approach for Nintendo to take is announce on the day of release. Like you're watching a Nintendo direct and BAM, you can now download Metroid Prime. Feels much better than overpromising and underdelivering.

They hardly overpromise...mostly because they rarely promise at all

Us: “Erm, why havn't we gotten any new digital Gamecube games?“

Nintendo: “Digital Gamecube games?! When did that happen?!“

Probably. Granted, I find it hard to get invested in the idea of Gamecube VC simply because there are seriously only 3 GCN games I have left to procure anymore, and one of them would be better saved for a double pack if Nintendo knows what's good for 'em. Except that game is Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, and outside of idle curiousity and the potential to eat some words I said 5 years ago, I doubt I'd seriously play that game even if I was given half the chance.

Same with Kirby's Air Ride, which is the second one I was thinking of. I swear my brother and his friends played it as a rental years ago, but they returned it before I could play it. Because it was utterly terrible, in their opinion. And I wish I could put that down to the ignorance of youth, but you'd be surprised by how many of our opinions from back then still hold water to this day. It seems like it was just the awkward teenage years that set up all the pins, waiting for reality to knock 'em down.

...so yeah, my only interest in Kirby's Air Ride is to see if it'll be a big exception or not. Not really sure if that'll be a worthwhile investment, though. I mean, Ninty's already charging $20 for Wii games, and I couldn't even justify paying that much during my last trip to Gamestop, why should I pay that much for a digital re-release? I guess GCN games could get a free pass at that price, if only because it'll still be cheaper than if you tried to buy them from the increasingly lucrative retro market...

Incidentally, the final Gamecube I'd be interested in, should it get a re-release, is Cubivore, if for no other reason than to rub it into the face of all those guys who charge over $100 for used copies. All 10 of them. And who knows, maybe it'll be like MUSHA or Suikoden II, where it turns out to be legitimately great, and now we no longer have to be deprived of it? (And totally not an Einhander, which was awful, and certainly not worth all the rigmarole to get it through the Japanese PSN)
