Topic: Gamecube Virtual Console?

The thing is that I think (and hope) that the NX would have NO problem at all to run Gamecube games through a emulator of some sort. I have no doubt that if Nintendo would have made an emulator for playing Gamecube games, they would make it as perfect as possible. And I don't know, but I at least think that the NX will be more powerful then the Wii U. So if Nintendo thinks that the Wii U couldn't run Gamecube games, then a more powerful system should get the job done.
And hey! If the NX is a hybrid of a portable and a home console, then you can play Gamecube games on the go! That would be pretty sweet!
And also the games are getting pretty expensive so it would be awesome to by them for like 15€!

Nintendo: “Hey guys, Gamecube games are coming to the eShop! Here, have Super Mario Sunshine, Paper Mario Thousand Year Door, and later, Super Smash Bros Melee!“

Us: “YAY!“

a few months later

Us: “Erm, why havn't we gotten any new digital Gamecube games?“

Nintendo: “Digital Gamecube games?! When did that happen?!“

Seriously, they keep adding new consoles, but drop support after a month. Every once in a blue moon they throw us a bone, but the releases are rarely steady... at least, in North America.

They need to get the Wii U (or NX) eShop to achieve parity with the Wii VC. And then some. As much as I'd love digital Gamecube games (I just need Thousand Year Door, and I'll have all the Mario RPGs I need, and Nintendo can make Hotel Paper Mario for all I care), I'd like to see improvement in VC support as a whole first.

@DarthNocturnal I wonder given the situation with Virtual Console, whether it's actually that profitable? And I don't mean just on the Wii U and 3DS but also when it launched on the Wii which would be a good valid reason why many games never got ported over to the newer systems.

I honestly think their attention just got split once WiiWare debuted. It was about that time that VC on Wii started going downhill a bit. And of course, now they've got the eShop.

Maybe they could drop VC and just further develop the mini Classics further... but then again, not everyone may want a separate device to play those games. Especially if those NES controller replicas have short cords (they'd be fine on Wii and Wii U).

Or the fact the well ran mostly dry by the time Wiiware came out. Hell, most of the complaints then were "where are VC games in general? I want quantity!!"

GameCube VC was one of my most wanted requests. Unfortunately, you're not getting it from Nintendo.

Fortunately, you can take matters into your own hands and play GameCube on Wii U, upscaled to HD, and with Wii U Pro Controller or any Bluetooth controller (including new Xbox Lab controller), even with the GameCube Smash Bros adapter and a real GameCube Controller. Virtual memory cards so no save issues either.

And it's so easy, a caveman could do it. People don't even realize they're literally 30 minutes away from playing GameCube right and proper on Wii U.

If you own the games and want to preserve them digitally, play them in widescreen in HD with a modern, wireless controller, without wearing your discs on an old console, just do it. Forget waiting on Nintendo- we'd have our empty hands outstretched til we're grey haired and toothless.

@tux_peng I run my Gamecube games on my Wii with a gamecube controller. I don't have a Wii-U yet. Does that homebrew thing allow the Wii-U to function with the gamecube controller (via the adapter?) or is that still not possible?

I don't have that many gamecube games: Batallion Wars (which I'm yet to play through), Wave Race, 1080 and Luigi's mansion and that's about it.

Windwaker and Twilight Princess I've got in the HD editions for the Wii-U (but I don't yet have a Wii U...currently the console I want most).

Also, got at least one import Wii game that I can't play until I import a Wii: Indianapolis 500 Legends (although I do have the sequel that I can't play on my PAL 360). Also I hear good things about the most recent Trauma Team but it didn't get a PAL release.

@SuperPaperLuigi The GC adapter should work with nintendont, along with PS3, PS4, & any HID jgamepad, the Pro Controller, & Classic controllers

I just hope that when they realized all of the Wii vc had to be done from scratch a second time for the wiiu they put a plan in place for all of it to carry over to the nx day one. I definitely don't want to start all over again and the turbo games near the end of the wiiu's lifecycle give me hope that they did.

I'm not getting my hopes up that they will do VC better on the NX, I doubt there will even be a VC on the NX.

@tux_peng Thanks for the info. I've read you can't use the adapter in Wii mode on the Wii-U, which kind of sucks. It'd be nice to be able to consolidate the platforms but it's a lot more easily said than done I guess.

@faint Probably, but I'm sure that Nintendo will be unprepared again and delay the VC games like they did with the Wii U.

@YellowFighter well with the wiiu everything had to be remade from scratch. As I posted above I hope they put a plan in place for the vc eshop to get ported over day one.

The VC has so much potential but once again Nintendo has ruined it. The fact that the Wii U library doesn't even have as many games as the Wii mean that its a down grade. Like come on Nintendo at least put all the games from your old e-shop on there, and don't get me started on games that are out in Japan and not the west

@haigh1011 we also have games the Japanese don't. I think the issue is they had to start from scratch with the wiiu. I hope they planned ahead and can just port it all over.

@SuperPaperLuigi
You can't use the adapter in Wii mode, until you boot up a GameCube game. Then it recognizes it because Nintendont is programmed to recognize it. It's the only way to use original GC controllers for GC on Wii as far as I know.

@JaxonH Thanks. I'm really just interested in it for my Wii fighting games: Guilty Gear, Tatsunoko V.s Capcom etc.

It's not too bad since I do still have a Wii for that stuff but it would be cool to be able to play it on the Wii U.

HelloCJ56

Even though I didn't have a GC growing up, I feel that the switch will allow me to play such heard of gems such as Super Mario Sunshine and Super Smash Bros Melee.
