@Heavyarms55, it's quite late before you even get it & you'll have to do the story quest you get it for before exploring.... But you literally can't miss getting it, as you'd be unable to continue otherwise. You fight Seymour again before that

@Heavyarms55

It's basically just for the endgame content.
You get full access to the airship right before the final dungeon. Then there are various sidequests in previous areas you can go back to do.
Most notably a secret dungeon, the 2 best summons in the whole game, and the main superboss of the game.
Including getting the 2 best summons

Ahhh, I remember filling out the entire sphere grid, and THEN filling out most of the empty nodes with Luk Spheres just so 99% of my attacks didn't 'miss' the superboss. There are some truly patience testing tasks in that game, but worth it to finally get the platinum trophy/the in-game bonuses. Breaking the 9999 barrier with Lulu was so satisfying after dodging the lightning 200 times

@Dezzy Do you have to fight the super boss for the best summon? If so, what is the point of the best summon? If you can beat the super boss without it, obviously you don't need it for the normal bad guy.

@Heavyarms55
The best summon on FF X = Anima and Magus Sisters.
Anima can deal 16 x 99,999 = 1,599,984 damages from her Oblivion, Magus Sisters can deal 6 x 99,999 = 599,994 damages from their Delta Attack.
They are optional Aeons, not tied by storyline and you don't fight with Super Boss to get Anima / Magus Sisters.
You can upgrade Anima's parameter and her abilities but for Magus Sisters, you cannot teach Magus Sisters any abilities since they will act Randomly based on the commands that appear during their turns (They might do nothing if you ask them "Do as you will"), but you still able to upgrade their parameters.

The Super Boss in FF X = Nemesis and Penance.

@Anti-Matter Wow, I am not really concerned with min-maxing damage, but I would like to get all the summons so long as none of them are tied to crazy unlock requirements.

Filthy casual here. I almost never 100% anything. Closest I have come to 100%ing any JRPG is Xenoblade 2, where I unlocked all of the (then available) blades and beat all of the unique monsters aside from the superbosses.

The only crazy requirement to get something wonderful such as Dodging 200 Thunders at Thunder Plains without breaking the combo (Straight 200 combo), getting Auroch Reels for Wakka's Overdrive by playing Blitzball and win the match to get the reward (I know you hate Blitzball).

@Anti-Matter dodging 200 thunders doesn't sound hard, just extremely time consuming and annoying. But lol, yeah Blitzball can die in a hole somewhere. Can't stand it.

Just completed Operation Mi'hen tonight. I know it fails (is that even a spoiler anymore, lol), but I always thought it was a pretty awesome moment (even though it wasn't quite as epic as I remember it from my youth).

@Heavyarms55, I know to get one of the optional summons you need to collect the hidden treasure in each of the summoning trial rooms (the places you go to, to get the story summons), and while you can go back to most of them later in the game in case you missed their treasure, there is one you can't go back to, so if you don't find it's treasure the first time through, you're out of luck on that optional summon.

I just got lucky myself on my original play through & got that one, but I never got the other optional summon (which I didn't even know existed until reading this thread, because like you I never 100% games, and am simply planning on main story completion here).

Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)

Heavyarms55

@RR529 Well, forget that then. lol That sounds about as fun as pulling weeds.

How much further have you got, @Heavyarms55? Are you getting FFXII, as well? That one has a proper world map to explore between places ....

@BruceCM Yeah I'll be picking up FFXII eventually. I owned it back near when it was new and honestly although I remember not finishing it, I don't remember why I didn't. So I intend to do that.

How do I black out spoilers? I thought it was [spoiler] something [spoiler/] but that didn't work.

I don't mind games being linear and don't mean to sound like I don't like FFX, because I do enjoy it a good bit. It's just got some quirks that bug me and one or two, seemingly optional things that I don't like at all.

@Heavyarms55

No, the summons come first. What's the point of them? Well they're just good for normal battles, and can be used to help beat the various superbosses (that's plural not singular, now I think about it)

It's dangerous to go alone! Stay at home.

Anti-Matter

@Heavyarms55
Btw, you need more Aeons to help you in Optional Super Boss battles, like battle with Nemesis at Monster Arena (Calm Land).
You need to cover your party with your Aeons when Nemesis unleash its Ultra Spark that deal tons of damages to all party.

Lols, there's bits of every FF game that I find irritating, @Heavyarms55 .... Wouldn't stop me buying them all again if they Switched
I think the characters in FFX are better, overall, than in FFXII but I prefer the freedom to explore in latter

I think I might try FFX again. I had it on ps2, but couldn't get into it. Just kept going back to play FFIX instead. I purchased it for the ps4 for like $20, so I think I will have to try it again. It just never grabs my attention at the start, but I will try to push through longer.

FF X and FF XII are two completely different Final Fantasy games.

FF X is all about Okinawa cultures, Harajuku outfits, Ethnical / Tribal theme, Fiction Religion (Yevon), Pilgrimage, Neverending cycle of Sin, Underwater themed, Sacrifices to become Final Aeon, Middle Eastern style of Al Bhed.

FF XII is all about Medieval kingdoms, Middle Eastern style for some places, Political issues, Judges, War of two kingdoms, Zodiac, different races, etc.

Both FF X & FF XII have non human races such as Ronso tribes FF X, Guado clans FF X, Bangaa / Vierra / Moggle FF XII, etc.

it is when you
A: Don't have a counter so you have to remember yourself
B: they strike at random times so you have to have really quick reflexes
C: The controls have a slight delay on the remasters so you have to press the button the exact moment of the flash
D: the counter resets if you are hit

if it was just 200 total it would have been fine but 200, in a row without a mistake on a game with input delays well it just isn't worth it in my opinion, yeah Celestial weapons give your Aeons a boost but you can make weapons with better battle stats yourself

honestly don't bother with upgrading the Celestial Weapons, they aint worth the trouble
