Topic: eShop undergoing emergency maintenance?

I'm in the US (in the event this is regional), and I tried to open the eShop on my Switch, and it said it's undergoing emergency maintenance. Anyone else seeing this? It appears it's been going on for a few hours.

It happens.

Maybe something was revealed in the "coming soon" section that wasn't suppose to be announced yet?

Same here in Europe.

Could this be related to the new Switch update? Maybe new NSO features?

@ballistic90 I see it in the US, too. Did your prompt actually say "emergency"?". The error prompt I got said:

"The server is currently undergoing maintenence.
We apologize for any inconvenience.
Please try again later."
also
"Suck it!"
(ok, maybe I made that last part up )

Maybe something good is coming. Like a dark mode for eshop!!<3333 (wishful thinking). I'm tired of being blinded by eshop's white backgroud if I open eshop at night on a TV. Although, I seem to be the only one that complains about this.

@WoomyNNYes I checked it out on the Nintendo.com website to try and buy a game and it gave an error and a link to their server status page. That status page indicated an Emergency maintenance.

@ballistic90 I've suspected the website and console eshop share a databse since they always seem to be in lock-step with eachother.

I was on the eshop as it was closing down for maintenance, it was glorious! They added loads of games. Thankfully I took screenshots,

@WoomyNNYes I mean, of course it does. That's why you can buy games on the Nintendo website from your phone or other device and it starts downloading on your Switch automatically.

Hacked maybe? Data breach? They shut EVERY eShop for hours unannounced... This isn't normal.

@Clyde_Radcliffe A security issue crossed my mind, too. Although, the timing also could be aimed for while people were sleeping, for the most part.

It happened at the same time as the new system update too. Could've been a security loophole found in it maybe.

@Clyde_Radcliffe Fair point. I've never seen Nintendo of America roll out anything after midnight, or before 9am PT when Nintendo of America(Seattle) work day starts.
