It's TGS 2023 and during the 505 Games presentation we got a new trailer.
I hate 505 Games as a company, but I have to give them kudos for their help in bringing this originally crowd-funded project further along.
As one of the people who values the Suikoden series above the Final Fantasy series, I think the game is looking great. That mashup of using 2D sprites on 3D backgrounds? Chef's kiss.
That music. The inclusion of an English dub. It feels like a passion project through and through.
I was looking forward to the Suikoden 1 & 2 pack which has been delayed, but I’ve got to admit, Eiyuden Chronicles is looking like a worthy homage! This and 1000 Year Door may be carrying RPG fans through the Switch’s denouement next year.
I do hope Konami gives us a glimpse of the Suikoden pack during TGS, though, if only to assure fans that it is still coming.

I've thrown down a preorder for what is one of my most anticipated 2024 releases. But I was a bit surprised by the Switch tax. A Switch copy will cost you $10 more than a PS5 copy. Perhaps we're getting the whole game on cartridge?
This game if recall was a KS game when it started.
Those that supported is the only reason why this can happen now a publisher makes it their own game-what a raw deal. For those that help get this project going.
Anyone else having problems finding this in the Eshop? My Eshop only shows Rising.. with the release date so soon I was hoping to bookmark it already in my account.
Been wondering if anyone else.is playing this game. I have been playing it for a few weeks now, I am about 12 hours in and I am really enjoying it. Right now my party consists of Nowa and Liene for their combo attack, Garr as a tank, the hunter guy, Iugo for a other tank and Francesca as my healer.
Curious to see what groups others are using and if you are using runes on party members. I haven't yet myself.

Finally got my castle which was one of my favorite parts of Suikoden. I really like in Eiyuden Chronicle how you can choose what part of the castle you upgrade, depending on materials you have and people, adds a bit of simulation there.
Speaking of recruits been doing my best to get all but I feel like I missed some. I am trying not to use a walk-through for one I want to avoid spoilers, and two alot of them conflict with each other. I feel like at some point I can go back and get characters I miss, but I am not sure. I certainly hope so.

I've read all kinds of reviews, from people saying it's great to others saying there's a lot to improve, from loading times and story to translation and characters and people shouldn't buy it.
@Bubu5000 If you are a fan of the Suikoden series or old school JRPGs, stuff like SNES and PSone era RPGs then yes. Alot of the things that people complain about random battles, load times etc, is what gives the game it's charm, but for those that didn't grow up with those type of game find it as outdated mechanics.
With that said I don't know how this runs on Switch as I have been playing this on the Series X through Gamepass which if you have is totally worth it.
For me who grew up with JRPGs during the SNES/PSone era I am loving it. The story is great, the graphics, music characters, it's everything in a JRPG that I love.

Finally received my physical copy last week. Managed to put in five hours over the weekend. It's a good sign that those five hours went by quickly. I'm dialed in.
Straight away, the performance is on the slow side. Slow to access and navigate menus in game. Animations in combat are a tad sluggish. And the load screens going in and out of combat feel like too many when compared to Suikoden, which had no loading screens for combat. I assume that's due to the game engine and all of the 3D assets where as Suikoden was all 2D sprites.
But with the negatives out of the way, let's get to the positives. I like the art style, it's comparable to Star Ocean The Second Story, the use of 2D character models against 3D backgrounds. I appreciate the voice acting, each character feels unique, with their own unique traits and quirks. And I like the music here; chill and ethereal overworld tunes combined with combat music that doesn't grate on my nerves.
I even appreciate the fact that your character doesn't emit footsteps when moving.
Classic games like say...Parasite Eve quickly begin to grate when all you hear is clackclackclackclack for hours on end.
Performance Mode has smoothed things over a little bit. Traversal in the overworld and in dungeons doesn't feel as framey, as though it were running at a consistent 30 fps rather than 20 fps. Combat animations also feel better in the same way. Menu navigation? Feels like a 10% improvement in load times and navigation, very slight.
I'm...just happy the game isn't operating at an N64 framerate I suppose. Otherwise, thirteen hours deep and maybe halfway through the game, when compared to some YT playthroughs. Maybe my least favorite bit are the boss gimmicks.

@Magician My biggest problem with the boss gimmicks is it seems to rely on you having certain people in your party where the first time through you aren't going to know that unless your using a guide. I will say it does spice up the boss fights nicely but again unless you have those certain people.

25 hours in now. The most recent patch really has smoothed over the frame rate. In and out of battles, in and out of locations, both feel improved. Menu navigation doesn't feel as choppy. And movement through the overworld, as well as in towns and in dungeons all feel better.
