Personally, I would've preferred a Switch port of EDF 4.1. But hey, I'm happy that Switch is getting EDF in some capacity. Anywho, if you're not familiar, EDF is basically Starship Troopers The Game. A third person shooter where all you do is annihilate swarms of gigantic bugs with military weapons. Just good olde mindless fun.
I'm not sure how I feel about D3 Publisher going with voxel graphics this time around.
Probably to increase the game world destructibility without crippling Switch portable performance.
Lego Starship Troopers, with Godzilla guest starring? I’m down for this! Never played any EDF, but I’ve heard good things. Not sure about this art direction, but gameplay is king, and if means masses of action without frame skips or slowdown, that is a good thing.
Much to my disappointment, yesterday's Japanese eShop update confirms that the Japanese physical release for EDF: WB does not support English. Surprising, considering a lot of games released by D3 Publisher usually do support English. Oh well, I suppose now I'll have to hold out hope for a southeast asian release with English support or a full on western release.
I've now played an hour of the game, just reached 4% completion. And I must say, I'm in third person shooter heaven. The game runs really well, except for the occasional frame rate spike, causing gameplay to drop briefly to zero fps. It's weird.
It feels as though the game is on the cusp of crashing, but doesn't.

Up to 10% completion rate now, still having a blast. Although I think the roster of characters to unlock is ridiculous; it feels like content padding, lots of different color palettes yet the same abilities. Progression is completely rng-based, which is neither here-nor-there with me but might turn some people off. You progress characters by recovering up to three npcs each mission, any duplicates will turn into xp that increases that character's skill level.
Increasing skill level expands the range of weapons that character can use. It adds a lot of flexibility for your squad composition. Looking forward to playing more. To quote one of my favorite EZA members, "swimmin' in sevens."
