Topic: Downloading Wii U eShop purchases

I heard that you can download your Wii U eshop purchases onto the Switch provided the games are available on the Switch's eshop. I assumed this would be done by linking the Nintendo Network ID used to make purchases on the Wii U with the Nintendo Account linked to my Switch profile (so many accounts... :L). Yet when I go on the Switch's eshop I get no option to download games I already own on my Wii U. Is there a step I'm missing, or has this not been implemented yet? Will it ever be?

The game in question is Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove. I haven't played it since before the free DLC came out, and the prospect of experiencing that on the go was pretty exciting until I ran into this wall

You heard wrong. There is no such practice in place.

Porygon did nothing wrong.

That article appears to have misinterpreted the information given by Nintendo. All that suggests is that purchases are now tied to a Nintendo Account, rather than a console itself, so, users can remove a user-account from one Switch and register it to another in order to download past purchases. It suggests nothing of free downloads of past Wii U or 3DS purchases on Switch. That article is an all-too-common case of editorial optimism.

That's a shame. I've still got my Wii U at least, but it would have been nice to take Shovel Knight on the go. Thanks for your replies.

@Shute
You could try to sell your WiiU with those digital games and with that funding go towards switches future.
Or you could try to stay adamant and force a rethinking in the company!
Imagine if the first years of switches lifespan those sales are crappy. THEN they have to adjust and fix their digital platform and payed online play issues.
Ultimatelly if gamers stay together they can only win and improve any service provided.
Please dont fall towards the stockholm syndrome D:

Anyway good luck whatever u choose!
