Hi I've bought a switch but the TV dock doesn't have a power cable. I've tried my own USB C mobile phone charger but it doesn't work, my understanding is you need a specific Nintendo or third party plug in order for it to work.
I've been looking online for one but I'm tearing my hair out as every search I do just brings up hundreds of USB C charging cables which will be no different to the USB C cable I already have. Does anybody have the part number of the plug, or a link to a seller that has these cables? If there's any decent third party ones that'd be useful as I'm sure the Nintendo one will be a complete rip off.
@dodonintendo You want a nintendo brand "AC adapter". Here in the US nintendo's website sells new & refurbished ones. But I'm not having luck searching nintendo UK's site. I don't know anything about the third party market for ac adapters for the switch dock for recommendations.
thanks, I'm in UK. Didn't get any chargers with the Switch. Just the console and the dock. Would have thought it would have just worked with any USB C cable
@dodonintendo Well, I guess the dock won't run off a random power source & usb c cable. I don't know what's going on exactly with how to power a dock, but since switch launch, I've never heard of the dock running off something other than an AC adapter designed for the dock.
Edit: ....Unless someone else here knows something.
Ohhh. Here's my problem. They don't call it an "AC" power adapter in UK. I see. Using "AC" as a search term was killing my search.
Now, I found the power adapter on UK's nintendo site store page. It's £24 like in @Rambler's post above. Thanks @Rambler! So, £24 is the standard price (uninflated) for the power adapter.
I have used a third party Venom charger for my docked Switch for a couple of years. It’s a bit cheaper than the official one from Nintendo and has a longer cable as well (I tend to use the official one when travelling). It’s £15.99 from Argos.

thanks, appreciate all the responses. I've established that the difference between a bog standard USB C charger (for phones etc) and the Nintendo charger is that mobile phone chargers are not 15V.
Much appreciated for the Argos link, that's damn pricey, which is hardly a shock considering its a Nintendo product. I'm thinking I'd rather frankenstein a normal 15V with a USB C connection. My dad was a sparko so I don't think it'll be anything too complex for him to knock up
@dodonintendo a word of caution: I’ve read a fair bit on these forums about people bricking their Switch by using alternative power sources. I bought the second Venom charger for a second dock in another room after doing a bit of reading around. I use their products for the Xbox (rechargeable battery and dock) and they’ve been reliable so I went for their charger for the Switch as it’s £9 cheaper and does the same job. Not quite sure if that’s still too pricey but it’s still a lot cheaper than buying a new Switch…
