Topic: Does DLC download to the same location a game's patch is installed?

So, the Switch automatically downloads game content to a SDcard if it is inserted, and internal if it is not.

Meaning if you want to put anything on internal you need to remove the SDcard before downloading the game/patch/dlc.

Anyway, what I wanted to ask is if this basically becomes a set location once you have something downloaded. E.g. if I remove the SDcard so a physical game's patch downloads to internal memory, then plug the SDcard back in, if I then later get DLC for that game will it also install to internal since it's in the same location as the patch, or will it attempt to install to SD?

I don't think so. I always make sure patches of my physical games download to the console, but the online gear for Splatoon ended up on the card I forgot to take out.

I've been wondering this myself. I think the patches download just like the games- SD if inserted otherwise system memory. It's weird because it can split your update data and DLC data to where some of it is on the console and some of it is on the SD card.

I have three separate 512gb micro SD with games, and have to be sure the correct one is inserted before downloading updates (physical version update on main card and digital copy of same game updates on SD dedicated to digital copie) and the only two games I keep on system memory are Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate and Civilization VI, since those are my two favorite games on the system and they are the two games I will be coming back to over and over and over again throughout the course of the generation. But Monster Hunter still has DLC releasing for it on a monthly basis. Always try to remove the microSD before downloading, just to ensure in installs on the system memory also
