Topic: Do You Use the Switch as a Handheld or Home Console?

I just wanted to know what you guys use your Switch for! Do you use it as a portable console that you take many places, or mainly as a home console? I personally use it as a home console, really only because I don't travel that much, and where I do go is typically not a place I would want to bring the Switch.

I don't have Switch right now, but judging from my gaming behaviour, 95 % Handheld, 5 % Docked.

With me, it pretty much depends on the game. I completely refrain from anything online (aside from Salmon Run in Spla2n if the tv is blocked) undocked. Same with games with great graphics and huge epic worlds. Games like Breath of the Wild, ARMS, Splatoon 2 and Mario Odyssey, Doom and Xenoblade 2 in the future.

Undocked, I like to play nindies or pixel art games like Sonic Mania. There's also the odd example of Mario + Rabbids and offline Mario Kart, where I just love to lay on the couch or bed, wrapped in my favorite blanket and chill while playing those games. Haven't much used outside of the house, though, something that'll probably change now that it's back to university again next week and the two days I'm at university, I have a two hour wait between two of my classes.

I never used the Switch docked. I m always in handheld mode because games look and play 100% better. I love the fact that I can roam around my house, go outside an still play my games on the Switch.

Handheld, unless I'm playing Splatoon 2.

It's its, not it's.

Home console, pretty much 100% of the time. I can't even remember when I last took my Switch out of the dock. I just don't really find myself in that many situations where I can play on the go, save when I'm in a waiting room or something, and even then I would feel like a major geek sitting there playing with a Switch. (Sorry if that offends anyone, that's just my opinion)

I just really don't care for the portable gaming experience, anyway. I'm not a big fan of how playing in handheld mode feels, and I feel a lot less precise and generally good at games when I play that way than I do when I play with a Pro controller. Plus, the decrease in resolution, sound quality, and the size of the screen are kind of annoying, especially the screen size. I'll take a TV and a Pro controller any day.

The fact that this is my first portable system outside of my Gameboy Color that only has 1 game probably has something to do with it, though. And I'm sure I'll take it out of the dock more when games like Animal Crossing come to the Switch.

I switch it up and use it for both. But when I use it as a portable console its mostly around the house still. I've only taken it away from home and used it a couple times.

Me, myself don't hesitate to play my New 3DS XL in public. Just let them know if I am playing video games. Of course, with my supervision.

Bit of both, will depend on what game I'm playing and whether the wife is watching TV.

Kind of why I want to get a second dock, but for the price of them I might as well buy a second Switch for my wife.

Docked when I can
If the main TV's in use, or if I'm out/away from home, I'll quite happily play in Handheld/Tabletop mode

I especially love moments where, say, I'm playing it on the TV in the morning and my game is just getting to a good bit - but I've run out of time - so I suspend the game, get my stuff together, head out...then get on the bus and pick up right back in the heat of the action! The hybrid nature of the console and the 'switching' mechanic are obviously the big selling points - but being able to suspend the software and put the console in to sleep mode as well is just the icing on the cake!

I was a little worried that I'd just slip in to the habit of treating it as a traditional 'home console' and that the 'hybrid' stuff would just feel gimmicky - but I needn't have! It all just...works! ..and so easily and naturally that it really does feel pretty game changing - I totally, totally love it!

"Do You Use the Switch as a Handheld or Home Console?"

Yes.

About 50/50 for me. It varies seasonally...when the weather is nice I prefer playing outdoors than cooped up indoors. And when indoors I'll have sort of set aside play time as an evening activity that I'll play on the TV sometimes, but other times I just fill in random time here and there with some handheld play. I'll do any genre in either mode....big RPGs are great to fill in handheld, pick up and play stage based games are great. Or jumping into a round of Splatoon when you only have time for a match or two or if a friend is online and you want to play (make sure to have a very solid wifi configuration if playing online games handheld. Easily doable, but you need your repeaters in the right places and broadcasting at fair power/proximity to your play location.)

The versatility to go back and forth between handheld docked is what's so great about Switch!

It pretty much depends on what game I'm playing. Splatoon is 100% TV-mode, as was Botw (will play again when that new dlc arrives). Mario rabbids and a lot of the eshop games are pretty much handheld.

50/50 for me. I love both ways. Nindies and classic games like the Neo Geos seem perfect in handheld.

For me handheld most of the time. Just like it that I can game anywhere at anytime around. Love the Switch possibility. When the Wii U came out I thought that I was able to at least game anywhere around the house but alas the connection tethered to the base unit is really short.

Hahaha....
Me too.
I take my New 3DS XL on public, play it everywhere when people usually use their smartphones.
I feel like a Rebel too, Rebel in a good way.

I mostly play handheld although when my friend comes over we play it docked. I'll probably play it docked more when Mario Odyssey comes out.

I play handheld much more, which means I'm playing it about twice as much as I played wii u

Depends on the moments. If I have more than an hour of free time, I'll probably plop down in front of the Tv and use it as a home console.
But after dinner, and when I don't have much time, I use it as a handheld.

So, I'd say 50/50. Or lately, more like 60 handheld/40 home console.

I have a chronic lack of time, for everything.

Now playing: Okami HD, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
