We all get that Switch 2 is more capable than Switch 1. However do you get the feeling that Switch Owners of new games are being abandoned and forgotten about. Given in the UK Switch 2 is more expensive to buy as i noticed the drying up reviews for Switch 1 games
Feels more of a slow phase-out which has been quite common for other systems in a similar situation kind of like ps4-5 where there were cross-gen games for a while, some games being released for the previous gen (which worked on the current) and overall support feeling more like its slowing down than an abrupt drop, we still got a first party exclusive recently on switch-1 (tomodachi life) along with a good few third party games still launching on switch 1(as opposed to cross-gen releases)
Switch 1 isn't being abandoned, it just isn't the priority anymore (as Mgalens mentioned, it's more like a slow phase-out). With Switch 2 out, that is Nintendo's primary focus. Post-Switch 2 launch, Super Mario Galaxy 1+2, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, and Rhythm Heaven Groove have or will be released for Switch. Furthermore, we can assume by some of the wording used surrounding the closure of the NSO Game Vouchers Program that there will be at least one full price Switch game that is yet to be announced releasing later this year. Also, Nintendo can't resist using ports to pad out a lineup, so I would expect Switch to continue receiving Wii, Wii U, and 3DS ports up through 2028 or 2029. Beyond that, low-power Indies are continuing to release games for the Switch 1.
Considering this, I definitely would not say Switch is getting "abandoned" just because Switch 2 has become Nintendo's main priority.

Not really? Not only because tbh, most of the handful of games I actively want this year are coming to it (Tomodachi Life, Rhythm Heaven, Castlevania, Mina) and interest me more than basically any known 2026 first party Switch 2 title except Splatoon (ask me again about Pokopia in the future tho). But also because this is way, way, way better than how Nintendo treated any console after SNES once its successor had come out. (and even moreso from 3rd parties) Like those systems were arguably DEAD even before they were replaced, let alone afterwards where they utterly abandoned, and immediately too (apart from a few casual games for Wii).
@EDWARD4444 This is how game console generations have worked since Atari and Nintendo around the 1980s. It's not like smartphone generations. Game console generations are spaced out much farther. And when the new game console gen comes, the power increase is quite significant, and Nintendo/PS/Xbox focus their development on the new console gen, partly to drive sales for the new console, and also because the older gen console lacks the power to run more flashy & demanding games of the next gen console.
That cross-gen period of new games coming to both Switch 1 & 2 is mostly coming to an end. If you want the next Splatoon, 3d mario, zelda, animal crossing, luigi's mansion, etc, they're going to be switch 2 exclusive.
Although, it is possible some third party and indie games may continue to come to Switch 1, if switch 1 has the power to run them. But support for switch 1 will probably continue to shrink.
I'll say that with the current circumstances, while increasing the value of the Switch 2 is an obvious priority, making sure Switch-only players have something for the foreseeable future is pretty important.
The Switch is 9 years old. Sony and MS Are positioning for their new consoles in 2-3 years. It is normal that once a successor comes out (especially one with high BC) will slowly but surely empty out old pipeline games for the old system and focusing on the new system. I just hope Nintendo doesn’t straddle gens as long as Sony and MS did with the 5 and series systems. There are tens of thousands of switch games plus new games still in release pipeline so there is plenty to play if one can’t upgrade. But it shouldn’t be expected for a company to straddle products for more than 2 years really. (even with the economy in the toilet.)

With Switch 1 still getting 1st party games like Tomodachi and Rhythm Heaven? Nah, there's still some life left, even if those titles aren't significant. Right now it feels more like Nintendo has little in the way of 1st party games altogether, it's not like the Switch 2 is drowning in 1st party games right now (especially new, original, full scale games), it's mainly being propped up by Switch 2 Editions and other smaller projects.
@EDWARD4444 While Switch 1 naturally will miss out on games, it's still getting plenty even from Nintendo. As for the reviews side of things, reviewers usually get review codes based on the newer hardware like it didn't take long for PS4 reviews to disappear in favour of PS5 reviews despite PS4 being well supported for many years into the PS5 era.
Yeah tech culture is very instant-gratification driven. I knew S1 was dead on arrival when the S2 came out, I still have not bought an S2 since there’s nothing to justify the purchase except for an alleged boosted fps+resolution that I’m sure was conveniently used for a select few games and never again.
Playing Xenoblade, feel free to add me on switch or steam.

Why is this a surprise. Of course it's being abandoned because Nintendo wants you to buy the newer console. This is standard for everything. Whenever a newer model or item comes out the older one becomes obsolete.

It's nine years old. There's only so much in the way of new software that can be ported to it.
Compare any other Nintendo console at this point in its life cycle and the only one that's doing even close to as well when it comes to getting new games is the original GameBoy.

It's hard to say that the fps+resolution boosted is only on select few games with the new thing called Handheld boost though... XD; (switch 2 edition will always be on select few games, but some stuff do get boosted even without an update, thanks to that handheld boost stuff)
Unless you're one of those sad losers that doesn't play games unless it sells millions upon millions of copies (or is marketed super well), this is obviously really good for the system's first full year of having a replacement, 9 years after release.
