Hey all, I thought it curious and unexpected that Nintendo put out an advert for the Switch which featured Crash Bandicoot, Spyro and Sonic alongside Donkey Kong, Mario and Link.
Here is the video:
I wondered if this is a new direction for Nintendo in regards to showcasing third party characters, and mascot characters at that, that they are willing to feature alongside their own as equals. I dont recall them doing so before and I was surprised as I thought they had a more protective attitude towards aligning their brands with outside IP.
Also its food for thought in regards to whether Crash 4 gets ported and future potential Smash fighters.
@ComradeThom I know what you're saying. Nintendo is very protective with it's IP, but they are also pushing hard to foster friendly relationships with game developers. I don't think they see Crash and Spyro as a threat, more as complimentary. Nintendo and Xbox (phil spencer) have been very friendly with cross platform games in recent years. Ori was xbox exclusive but came to the Switch.
Crash Trilogy and Spyro Reignited both ported to the Switch a year after they released on xbox/playstation. Crash 4 released around september/october, so I expect Crash 4 next fall.
Crash 4 better be coming to Switch with the way Nintendo are promoting him! (They also let Crash Team Racing trial on Switch Online)
I heard Crash 4 sales disappointed on the other consoles. I think it would do much better on Switch as long as it doesn't release too close to Mario 3D World. Would be a good early Summer release!
I have a feeling Crash 4 only sold as badly as it did because it came out pretty close to other big name games during that same week - I think Star Wars Squadrons came out the same exact day and obviously 3D All Stars was taking the wind out of every game regardless
Crash 4 being a PS4 game probably had nothing to do with it since N. Sane Trilogy to my knowledge is in the top 25 of the best selling PS4 games in general though it got narrowly beat out by Persona 5

Ya I had that same feeling, I don't think porting crash would even be that hard its more cartoonish so they don't have to downgrade on good fur and stuff like that.
Nintendo are like woman, You love them for whats on the inside, not the outside…you know what I mean! Luzlane best girl!

Sorry for not being active much recently, but I’m very much alive!
Crash 4 always felt like the usual release on the Switch a year later type situation (like with Crash and Spyro trilogies), perhaps along with Crash in Smash.
I don't think it is shocking that Nintendo would put out an ad that their console has their own popular series, and also other people's popular series.
There's been a bunch of random games on Switch commercials for years now. Like if you saw that meme-y "Switch has games" ad, there's a bunch like that.
